1. Well I ain't calling it quit yet.
I've been looking at Democratic strongholds, and so far two of four hasn't been counted yet, and I still have SLIM hopes that AP just pulled another "Dewey defeats Truman" farce unless Chandler already called and conceded the race????

2. It's not a big surprise
I'm a bit more hopeful about Street and Musgrove's chances.

I was hoping for a miracle in KY, but it was really a long shot.

4. Just to give you an example...
Edited on Tue Nov-04-03 07:26 PM by HawkeyeX
Just 2 minutes ago, Fletcher was leading at 56%, and now it just dropped to 52.4% as of 5:24pm. I wouldn't count him out... yet

AND that was just with just a bit over 52% of the total count done.

And they haven't gotten to the Democratic strongholds yet.

It's a 54.9%-45.1% margin. Given Kentucky's voting trends, I really don't think it's the machines in this case.

BBV can be a problem. But we lose races on our own sometimes, and this was the case tonight.

17. I don't think this was the case

Chandler did not lose this election. The Republican Governors Association won this race for Fletcher. Ben Chandlers campaign couldn't possibly match the advertising dollars that was in Fletchers corner. And Fletchers campaign was one of the dirtiest on record especially with the RGA lobbying group. Chandler got pummeled by wall to wall attack commercials and I'm not exaggerating. A couple of times I saw the attack commercials running back to back.

The irony of it is, Chandler was painted as a champion for special interests when Fletcher won the Governors race largely because to money from special interests. When will people learn?

The only thing I have to say is, if you are a Kentucky resident and need prescription drugs and have no prescription card get ready to pay more. Fletcher is going to fight the Canadian precription drug pipeline to Kentucky hammer and tong, mark my word.

and evidently, it has paid off.

Kentucky: perpetuating the stereotype of the ignorant hillbilly.

And I say that as a Kentuckian.

20. Hillbillies voted for Chandler, not Fletcher.
Actually I just saw the election results map and the only part of the state Chandler won was far Eastern Kentucky, which is the least educated and poorest part of the state. Ignorance is not the reason folks voted for Fletcher.

I think it was an anti-Patton vote more than anything.

I also think the Democratic party better find a way to connect with the South - and fast.

21. And, as a Kentuckian
I must say that there was no weather excuse for the low turnout (below 40%). Record-breaking temps and good weather across the state. That's one factor we can exclude when we disect the reasons why.

I knew Fletcher was leading in the polls, but I was very optimistic on Chandler's chances today. I can't even convey how disappointed I am.

24. How could any state be stupid enough to elect a Republican after
the way they have trashed the economies on the state and federal level. These morons can't manage money at all. Or is it that they are simply so greedy that they can't get their thieving fingers out of the till?

27. Don't tell me he won by approximately 54-56% like we've seen
in a lot of recent elections where GOP candidates have won. I guess they learned after the 2000 Presidential election that you need to widen the margin.
