Two New Orleans cops fired in taped beating case
Wednesday, December 21, 2005 Posted at 3:19 PM EST

Associated Press

New Orleans — Two of the officers videotaped by the Associated Press beating a man in the French Quarter shortly after hurricane Katrina were fired Tuesday. A third officer was suspended.

Officers Robert Evangelist and Lance Shilling were fired for their role in the beating of Robert Davis, 64.

Officer Stuart Smith was suspended for 120 days.

Mr. Davis is black; the three officers are white.

Mr. Evangelist and Mr. Schilling were accused of battery on Mr. Davis. Mr. Smith was accused of battery of a reporter.
