Oregon adopts Calif.-based (environmental) rules
Oregon adopts Calif.-based rules

December 23, 2005

PORTLAND, Ore. – The Oregon Environmental Quality Commission voted unanimously yesterday to temporarily adopt rules on car and truck emissions that will extend California standards to the entire Pacific Coast from Mexico to Canada.

Gov. Ted Kulongoski had recommended the stricter California standards for cars and light trucks beginning with the 2009 model year to help reduce pollution blamed for global warming.

The Washington Legislature has already approved the stricter standards, but they won't go into effect unless Oregon agrees to them as well.

2. Great news
Let's hope the NE consortium will follow. It's one way to bypass a recalcitrant EPA.

3. Great news! Let's hear it for states' rights.
While the feds are trying to make pollution and desecration of nature easier, states are taking into their own hands to do what's right, and impacting the whole country by doing so. Similar to Spitzer impacting nationwide corporate accountability from his post in NY. That's why I have hope that the DNC/Dean's vision for taking back the country town by town might work.

4. California has had higher gas prices because of boutique fuels.
Now the whole left coast will use the same fuels so it should be cheaper for everyone. Notice I say "should be". Even though they'll be refining for the whole coast, the'll still claim they're "boutique" fuels.

6. Hoo-Ya! and congrats
from NorCal, perhaps to soon become part of greater "Ecotopia" if enough people in CA, OR & WA get disgusted with the no-nothings in DC.
