New Jersey Dems Take Control
The Assembly and Senate have been taken over by Democrats.

Ellen Karcher-D and first time candidate, unseated the most powerful Republican Senator, John Bennet.

Democrats now control the legislature and exectuive brances.

5. There are several reasons why this is good news.
First is that Jim McGreevy has been perceived as an unpopular governer. The Republicans, in their ads, tried to portray any Democrats who were running as lap dogs for McGreevy. This obviously failed, big time.

Second, is that the races in New Jersey and Philadelphia show that Bush is EXTREMELY vulnerable. He is absolutely HATED here in the Northeast, and he is uniting and energizing Democratic voters.

10. Bush won't set foot in this state, NJ is now a SOLID LOCK in 04!!!
In fact, I doubt he can even win 40% of the vote again.

Unnamed Dem will win this state with 60% of the vote MINIMUM!

18. Not to be wonky, but...
The Democratic Party had nothing to win and everything to lose in Philly and the NJ Legislature. This was a hold. Both states were secure Democrat states with 100% Electoral College allocation to the winner. It matters not if Clark or Dean get 51% or 99% of the vote in New Jersey. We have to think about the Electoral College. Too many people are too insistent on the false promise of the popular vote. It is meaningless in the aggregate!!!!!

Your comment that Bush is uniting and energizing Democratic voters is disturbing to me. Do we have NO ONE in our own party who can do that? Has our party come to stand for nothing except that which we are against (see the popularity amongst the hard-core of the "Anyone But Bush" shirts). Many people on the right make this claim. Your comment only adds validity to that claim.

BTW, a friend of mine from high school won a seat in the State Senate. Congratulations to State Senator-elect Nick Scutari.

23. OTOH, the gov. races in the South were already lost.
It proves NOTHING, although the Bushies will gloat.

In central NY, Dem candidates got 10-15 percent more than anyone thought they would (but still lost :-( )

6. Start re-redistricting the state
And don't back off until the Texas Republicans abandon their mapmaking and fingerpainting of TX congressional districts.

7. "Start re-redistricting the state"
State Senate could go 22 - 18. One race still too close to call.

Re-district now: Demand 10 - 3

ha ha

8. We can't
New Jersey has a bipartisan redistricting commission. Basically, it just protected the 7 incumbent democrats and the 6 incumbent republicans after the 2000 census.

12. This is great news for us in Jersey.
I am thrilled!!! There was a lot of "get out the vote" work done here by Rutgers students and I like to think that it played a role in getting this. See what can happen if people vote? Looks like the Bushies will have their work cut out for them here. :bounce: :kick: :bounce:

This is not an accident. There is a smart gutsy political model. I know its going to be applied in other states.

20. Dems won big but now must get to work...
Oddly enough the Dems had tons more money than the Republicans. The TV advertising was brutal on both sides. All negative campaigning against "shady" candidates.

McGreevey has stumbled over the past two years. The next year will make or break him. He's got some big problems to solve and must produce so he has a record to run on in '05.

As far as '04. Neither Bush or Gore bothered campaigning here in '00. The state was locked up early and it looks like our electoral votes will go Democratic without a fight next year. We have a late primary also so I'll be watching the campaign on TV.
