Exit Poll Projects Mayor Anderson To Win Second TermSNIP:
Mayor Rocky Anderson is projected to win a second term according to an exit poll conducted by students from Brigham Young University and Utah Valley State College. Results were released when polls closed at 8 p.m.
SNIP:
Voters lined up at the polls Tuesday to decide whether to give Anderson a second term or to hand the city over to Pignanelli in a race that was a statistical dead heat.
Though morning snowfall may have discouraged some voters, by the time people were getting off work, the numbers had picked up, said Nick Floros, Salt Lake County chief deputy clerk. Floros said he expected turnout to be about 46 percent; 48 to 49 percent would be ``really good,'' he said.
SNIP:
Students with the Utah Colleges Exit Poll surveying at the hospital said about 80 percent of the voters agreed to be questioned, and said their answers appeared to favor Anderson.
By 5 p.m., just 30 percent of westside voters who cast ballots at Rose Park Elementary had turned out. Floros said he expected that to pick up quickly as working people stopped by on their way home.
Weekend polls published in the city's two daily newspapers showed Anderson's numbers had not changed much since the Oct. 7 primary, when he won 45 percent of the vote.
But Pignanelli has gained 17 percentage points since his 30 percent primary showing.
