Texas Lawmakers vote against air pollution limits

HOUSTON (AP) -- A majority of Houston-area lawmakers voted against legislation to improve screening for toxic air pollution, require companies to continuously monitor emissions and set fines for periodic releases, according to an analysis by the Houston Chronicle.

Twenty of the 34 area House representatives voted to table five amendments that included the pollution measures, the newspaper reported Monday. Those who voted against the measures were Republicans, and some represent industrial areas.

The party line votes -- which are not uncommon -- came during a session in which lawmakers received evidence that toxic pollution was a problem and Houston residents were concerned about it, according to the Chronicle.

In January, the state released data showing some communities had chemical levels that could increase cancer risks. In May, the 2005 Houston Area Survey showed nearly half of the residents who responded considered local pollution control poor, the newspaper reported.

Even those who insist that they, themselves, have no association with crooks, the mere fact that they support the horror show, even tacitly, implicates them.
Actions, as well as non actions, have consequences. Republicans are crooks; dems who support them (ala the glad handing of McCain) are crooks.

This is not crooked in the sense that crooked is an adorable fluffy bunny of a word. This is homicide. Infanticide. Murder. This is a skeleton with a black hood and a scythe.

They voted to kill Houston citizens. For money.

Kinda sad- but until they really choke on it- say, with something similar to, say, the killer fogs of London in the 1950's, they'll never learn.

Pretty much all Republicans are like that- and, unfortunately- a few too many Dems.

A vote for the repukes is a vote for unlimited industrial pollution.

He's not in Texas, but what is it going to take to get people to take this pollution stuff seriously?

The only place I've seen (breathed) worse air than the valley's north of LA is Houston. It nearly blotted out the sun, like a red ball, in mid-afternoon. And that's not even considering all of the chemical contaminates.

If your politicians want to sell out your citizens' health by failing to at least try to correct your industries' externalized costs- be my guest. You all vote for them again and again.

All I know is, I'm avoiding that place for the rest of my life- and that's for sure.

All that hot air from the blowhards, doncha know.

I'm sick of this shit and voting hasn't helped to stop it. Maybe these people are getting their payoff so they can move far away like I wish I could.

I used to live in that poluted city of Houston. I had a headache the whole time I was there. It cleared up after I left.
