Ulster County NY Democrats go from 8 to 16 in 33-seat County Legislature
Edited on Wed Nov-05-03 03:03 AM by Dems Will Win
(Home of Woodstock) And we might get the controlling 17th seat tomorrow morning (only 42 votes behind)! We were 17 seats behind and right now we are only 1 behind!!

I was the top consultant for the Dems and we made our own 8-page newspaper that I wrote with some others called The Ulster Clarion. We exposed what the Repukes here had been doing and they are now completely shocked at having lost power (there is one good Republican that we will pass a lot of bills with).

Hey! Dean should make his own newspaper for swing precincts in swing states! It cost us $3,900 to make 40,000 2-color 8-page newspapers and insert them in the local paper.

Remember this folks! Newsprint is cheap and people will read a newspaper while they will throw away slick expensive campaign lit. Take it from a guy who has now won 22 out of 26 races with this little technique...

2. Congratulations!

That sounds like an excellent method for 'exurbs' and rural areas, where people actually buy and definitely read the local paper to keep in touch with relevant stuff.

It's a good thing you could find 8 or 9 electable people to run. Definitely not an easy thing to do. It sure sounds as if people like you are getting county governments and the evil little establishment cliques that run them cleaned up in NY- I remember the horror story that came out of Nassau County in 2001 and now it seems like Suffolk County is on its way too. It would sure be great if Ulster County gets turned around.

Keep it up, thank you, and party well tonight!

11. All you need is writers and graphics people and some Micro-Bucks
and a Web Press. Ususally a local paper will run it for you.

Hey! There aren't any writers and graphics people here on DU are there? Of course, if there are, they would have to LOVE eating Republicans for breakfast!

I'm having mine with organic strawberries this morning!!

3. IMHO, you should contact the Dean campaign and offer your services!

I think that doing that on a nationwide basis would be very cost efficient. :hi:

13. IMHO, a good start would be, simply
The text of Dean speeches (you don't need to hire extra writers or open the campaign up to potential gaffees by having to vet more information, this way) with the information that folks might not believe is happening, sourced.

7. Wow. Very impressive work there!
Congrats! Normally I could care less about some local election, but to win that big (and cheap to boot) is awfully good work!

8. There were many factors but the Dems united behind the newspaper and
held a press conference to launch the paper with all the candidates attending a week before the election and then inserted in the local paper and handed them out on the street. These papers usually give a 10% to 15% boost overnight and motivate the base.
