Chalabi may be shut out of Iraqi Assembly

BAGHDAD, Iraq (UPI) -- One-time U.S.-favored Iraqi politician Ahmed Chalabi is unlikely to win enough votes to join the new Iraqi Assembly, The Washington Post reported Tuesday.

With 95 percent of a preliminary tally from the Dec. 15 vote completed, Chalabi remained almost 8,000 votes short of the 40,000 minimum needed for him or his bloc to win a single seat in the 275-seat National Assembly, election officials said.

Chalabi`s supporters had hoped he would do well among exile voters who were allowed to cast ballots overseas. But results released Monday showed he received 0.89 percent of the special vote.

Even if he fails to reach the plateau to gain a seat, a spokesman, Haider Mousawi, told the newspaper Chalabi would not be idle.

3. Chalabi's new line of t-shirts
"I inveigled the United States into a ruinous invasion, and all I got was this lousy t-shirt"

But yeah, I expect that "Ahmed Who?" (to use Bush's pet name for the man who sat behind his wife at the 2004 State of the Union address) will use this electoral failure to propel himself into a plum position in the new Iraqi government.

whacked.

Seems to me the Iraqis have tried numerous ways to tell this guy to bugger off and he ain't gettin' it. I suspect continuous efforts to meddle by Chalabi will result in him getting permanently "idled".

Just my .0125

Parliment, but this is a nice present for this Holiday Season.

10. "Chalabi would not be idle"
Of course not.

He'll emigrate back to London, lie and decieve another country into invading Iraq once again so he can try to take power.

Just like he did with the U.S. and the neo-cons.

12. Sound like....it look like ....the Iraqis are out politicking the U.S.
Ahmed Chalabi was a brain fart from whom? And American lives were given to prop this mustache up to replace Saddam? 2169 dead, 17,000 who lost eyes, arms, legs and their brain.

We should be ashameed of ourselves.
