Schwarzenegger May Not Be Back to Hometown
http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20051227/ap_en_mo/austria_schwarzenegger

GRAZ, Austria - "I'll be back." That pledge from the Terminator traditionally has had special meaning in Arnold Schwarzenegger's hometown.

But the romance is now over between Schwarzenegger and Graz, Austria's second-largest city, after the California governor refused to spare the lives of three convicted murderers and shows no signs of preventing another execution scheduled for next month.

Acting on Schwarzenegger's orders two weeks after the Dec. 13 execution of former Crips gang leader Stanley Tookie Williams, city leaders Tuesday deleted all references to the bodybuilder-turned-governor on Web sites linked to Graz. Over the weekend, they also stripped his name from the city's soccer stadium.

Austrians are making a statement!!!

2. It seems to me that Arnold is the one making the statement.
He wrote them and told them to remove his name. He also returned the ring that they gave him. True-they had expressed displeasure that he had failed to stop the execution of Saint Tookie, but he was the one that made the statement.

8. The Death Penalty is NOT the answer and it can be used to
kill many innocent people...THATS the Austrian statement...

Texas has executed 1000's and has admitted it may have killed innocent man & women.......

thats what the Austrians are screaming and protesting about

Many innocents were killed by Hitlers regime...

11. Not to mention the Death Penalty as an incredible waste of money
as it costs more to execute than to imprision (or *gasp* reform) a prisoner... We're not about that here, it's hangman's justice because death makes idiots feel better.

7. These people are taking his NAME off of Everything
there was a Scharzenegger Cafe

now all it says is

Cafe...

I predict that will be the legacy of Bush
we see Bush Intercontinental and Bush schools and Bush streets

but someday it will be just like Arnold

remove his name from everything ...

Its the legacy of death ...

9. I thought it was more of a "you can't fire me, I quit!" situation

Regardless, this just has to be personally damaging to Ahnuld, and his big giant ego. As an athlete, (showman, really) actor and now, "politician ," Ahnuld takes to the stage. Garnering adulation from others is all he's known and worked towards. Upon his entry into politics he even rambled on about how he admired the larger-than-life presence Hitler was able to create for himself, when leading the German people.

And now, Ahnuld's hometown pretty much disowns their once adored son? Ouch! That hurts Ahnuld, and you know it ...

12. One need not believe in "Saint Tookie" to believe that the death penalty
Edited on Tue Dec-27-05 05:56 PM by NNadir
is wrong. The death penalty is wrong in part because it is administered by incompetent shit for brains people like the national embarrassment George W. Bush as well as California's embarrassment Governor Hydrogen Hummer steroid crazed ass grabber boy.

The fact that George W. Bush routinely executed prisoners while giggling like an adolescent predicted what kind of President he would make. It is totally lost on this maturity whithered fool that his indifference to suffering, pain and torture has destroyed the honor of the United States for decades to come. We will not easily recover.

It doesn't matter in any case - Graz did not do itself well associating itself with one more "sounds good but can't produce" incompetent Repuke. The mutually acceptable divorce between its most famous Repuke and Graz is good for Graz. Austria has some experience with living down state sanctioned cruelty. It is well that the Austrians distance themselves as quickly as possible from the flailing muscle bound pig. The last thing that Austria needs is to be associated with a clique that will ultimately be hauled before international courts for war crimes. Some may find the occurrence of such a trial this improbable, but there are probably some Austrians alive who can recall that it seemed improbable, say from 1940-2, that Austria's then leaders would ever end up sitting in the dock looking like pathetic schoolboys caught vandalizing the bathrooms.

As the United States is economically a bigger debtor than Chad or any other nation, since it's government has lost huge reservoirs of international respect, as it's military has just been shown to be demonstrably weak and easy to defeat, it is only a matter of time before these trials take place.

You heard it here first.

Given its history, Austria should try to seem as far away from all things American - especially Governor Steroid Boy - as is reasonably possible.

14. From what I gathered in earlier interviews
Edited on Tue Dec-27-05 06:49 PM by kskiska
he's never been all that fond of his origins, anyway. He's said that everything in Austria was "old," and he came to America because everything was "new." If I remember correctly, he never even went home to attend his brother's or his parents' funerals. He's a cold bastard. Probably comes from his Nazi heritage.

I've driven through Graz. It's a very picturesque decent-sized town. We couldn't find a room there because it was all booked up with conventioneers.
