Another perfect example proving our system has been completely corrupted and is broken, can it possibly be repaired? This stinks to high heaven. New York's system really is from the dark ages.

ALBANY - Gov. Pataki yesterday nominated a major campaign donor - a Manhattan lawyer who, along with his wife, has contributed more than $140,000 - to serve on the state's highest court.
Robert S. Smith, 59, was tapped for the seven-member Court of Appeals to succeed Judge Richard Wesley, who recently resigned for a seat on the U.S. Court of Appeals.
Smith, who like Pataki is a Columbia Law School graduate and a Republican, "is an outstanding lawyer who had distinguished himself throughout his career," the governor said.
State Board of Elections records show Smith donated $20,700 to Pataki's re-election campaign in 2001 and more than $75,000 to the state GOP since 1999. He also gave $7,500 over the past year to the pro-Pataki Conservative Party.
