Bush to Sign Partial Birth Abortion Ban
President Bush will sign a ban on partial birth abortion this afternoon.

Opponents of the ban have already attacked it in three separate challenges even before it became law, with lawsuits filed Friday in federal courts in San Francisco, Omaha, Neb., and New York City. Hearings are scheduled today on all three suits' request for temporary restraining orders that would block the law from taking effect.

The bill Bush has said he was pleased to usher into law Wednesday forbids an abortion, generally performed in the second or third trimester, in which a fetus is partially delivered before being killed, usually by having its skull punctured.

President Bush is handing abortion opponents a victory sought through seven years of political battle as he signs the legislation.

1. with no exception clause to save the life of both mother and child.
He isn't that much of a father, so if one of the twins ever needs a late term abortion to save her life, he might attend the funeral, but he will be out fishing with Poppy and Jeb later that afternoon.

He demonstrated that when Jenna had an emergency apendectomy on Christmas night 2000 and instead of worrying about his daughter, he went fishing.

2. For what it's worth
This is just anecdoctal but I feel compelled to say it. Among my friends and acquaintences over the years, the ones who felt most strongly about prohibiting abortions were males who didn't have any children and didn't ever intend to have any.

3. Let's call it what it is.....Late Term Abortion!
What can be partial about an abortion? (Right Wing Trickery)

The young girls of today don't remember the years when abortion was illegal. If the republicans stay in power the girls will be looking for coat hangers again.
Get government out of religion and give women their rights!

In Midland Texas I saw a bumber sticker that said, "Abortion is a wrong not a right"

Women should say, "Your freedom ends where my nose begins"

5. Won't they be surprised
when they find there is virtually NO decrease in the abortion rate?! These abortions they banned are rare. The biggest problem here is that it is another step toward banning all abortion.

6. that is one of the biggest, FlaGranny
the biggest is the tremedous risk it forces mothers into re their own health and their own lives.

Reading the articles today and looking at the picture of the white haired old farts that proudly stand behind their fuhror as he does his familiar Reichstag salute makes me literally sick. One from the AP described the procedure as an abortion where the fetus is "partially delivered and then killed"--and left it pretty much at that. Shabby journalism or told to describe a D&E in that way? I wish I had an address where I could write to the author of that one -Tom Raum of the Associated Press- does anyone have the e-mail address of Tom Raum?

Who on earth is he waving at?
