Officials Say U.S. Has No Plans for Iraqi Paramilitary Forces

AGHDAD, Iraq, Nov. 5 — Occupying forces here have no plans to use privately controlled Iraqi paramilitary forces to augment Iraq's army and police force, senior American and Iraqi officials said today.

The United States wants to expand Iraqi security forces as quickly as possible to relieve the burden on the 150,000 American and international troops in Iraq. But proposals to augment state-trained troops with paramilitary forces affiliated with Kurdish and Shia political parties are only beginning to be studied, according to members of Iraq's governing council and Dan Senor, a senior adviser to L. Paul Bremer III, the chief administrator of Iraq.


"Ambassador Bremer has always had concerns about this proposal," Mr. Senor said. "The concerns remain."

Two members of the governing council said that they did not believe paramilitary forces should be used as part of the Iraqi army or police force. "That's off the table," said Mowaffak al-Rubaie, a member of the Dawa party, which represents Shiite Muslims. "No one will entertain that."

I haven't even read the article, I just know "Clean Air" means "Dirty Air", "Compasionate Conservatism" means "Vicious Conservatism", "Preserving Freedom" means "Invade for Oil"....
