Attack Near Shiite Shrine Kills Over 40
KARBALA, Iraq - A suicide bomber detonated his explosives near one of Shiite Islam's holiest shrines Thursday, killing more than 40 people, officials said.

The blast near the Imam Hussein shrine in central Karbala, 50 miles south of Baghdad, killed 41 and injured 16, said Adel al-Azawi, the deputy director of Karbala's health department. Karbala's governor, Aqeel al-Khazraji, said 44 were killed and 48 injured.

Television images showed men ferrying the wounded in pushcasts. The bomber appeared to have set off the explosion only about 30 yards from the shrine in a busy pedestrian area surrounded by shops.

4. If by 'beat' you mean the civil war that the media keeps predicting will
start, you're right.

The American media. No credibility with anyone who capable of what is known as the 'thought process'.

About 110 people were killed in two suicide attacks in Iraq today.

IRAQ WRAPUP 3-Suicide bombers kill over 110 in Iraqi cities
05 Jan 2006 13:37:00 GMT
Source: Reuters

(Adds Baghdad, Najaf bombs, quotes, updates toll) By Sami Jumaili KERBALA, Iraq, Jan 5 (Reuters) - Two suicide bombers killed at least 110 people and wounded more than 200 in the Iraqi cities of Kerbala and Ramadi on Thursday, the second consecutive day of concerted insurgent attacks. Another three bombs exploded in Baghdad, two of them detonated by suicide bombers, and a roadside bomb targeted a U.S convoy near the southern Shi'ite holy city of Najaf, destroying a Humvee and killing at least two civilians. Coming a day after 58 people died in a wave of bombings and shootings, the latest bloodshed appeared certain to ratchet up tension between Sunni and Shi'ite Muslims after December's election. Kerbala is one of Shi'ite Islam's holiest cities while Ramadi is a Sunni Arab stronghold and a hotbed of insurgency. The bombs shattered hope that Iraq might start 2006 on a more peaceful footing. In all, violence has killed more than 225 people and wounded more than 280 in the five days since the New Year started, a death toll comparable with some of the nation's bloodiest weeks since the U.S.-led invasion in March 2003. "These groups of dark terror will not succeed through these cowardly acts in dissuading Iraqis in their bid to form a government of national unity," President Jalal Talabani said in response to the attacks.

13. They are dead enders . Freedom is on the march. They
are in the last throws. Democracy will prevail. We will complete our mission.

Why does the press only report bad news from Iraq when there are so many positive things happening?
