16. If Bush predicts more violence then does nothing to prevent it,...
...isn't he complicit?

A sensible action when faced with the prospect of more violence is to take action to either prevent it or to mitigate it. Doing neither is neither action not leadership!

20. So it's "expect more violence both before AND after an election?"
Edited on Thu Jan-05-06 09:34 AM by Divernan
I thought this yesterday when I saw one of these "We can expect more violence" press releases.

So if the violence BEFORE the election is to impede the election, and the violence AFTER the election is to protest the election results, then those in Iraq can expect heightened violence ALL THE TIME. Which is exactly what has gone on for years. In other words, Bush's handlers remain totally inept and clueless on how to stabilize the area and reduce violence.

Rest in peace, young men and women who were sacrificed on Bush's altar of greed.

26. Winning in Iraq is NOT vital to American interests
The 10-year war between Iraq and Iran during the 1980s didn't require American troops to prevent catastrophe. Similarly, Bush's 3-year war on Iraq isn't required to prevent catastrophe. People predicting a doomsday scenario if we leave Iraq should look at history. The Middle East has been in turmoil for decades and oil supplies have (mostly) been readily available. Any leader who comes to power in Iraq will beg to sell oil to the largest oil users - Americans. Withdrawing from Iraq will not cause a bigger catastrophe than previous ones, including the ones that occurred when gasoline was at 60 cents in 1986.

The neocons whispered in lil georgies* ear you've got a bigger one than poppy, so lil geprgie* smiled and smacked the Iraq tarbaby, only it wasn't tar and it wasn't oil.
It's made out of stinky shit, held together with the blood of our citizen soldiers. Soldiers who would happily give their life to defend America, but now, they're throwing thenselves away so a madman can prove his dick is bigger than his daddies.

A Nation Rocked to Sleep
By Carly Sheehan
Sister of Casey KIA 04/04/04
Sadr City, Baghdad

Have you ever heard the sound of a mother screaming for her son?
The torrential rains of a mother's weeping will never be done
They call him a hero, you should be glad that he's one, but
Have you ever heard the sound of a mother screaming for her son?
Have you ever heard the sound of a father holding back his cries?
He must be brave because his boy died for another man's lies
The only grief he allows himself are long, deep sighs
Have you ever heard the sound of a father holding back his cries?
Have you ever heard the sound of taps played at your brother's grave?
They say that he died so that the flag will continue to wave
But I believe he died because they had oil to save
Have you ever heard the sound of taps played at your brother's grave?
Have you ever heard the sound of a nation being rocked to sleep?
The leaders want to keep you numb so the pain won't be so deep
But if we the people let them continue another mother will weep

29. Insurgents warned us they were just taking an election break.
Now that the alliances hve pretty much shifted to where they were going to go after the "elections". The insurgents and of course the terrorists (important to deliniate between the two) are back in operations, everytime there is a power shift they have to re-allign themselves (safe houses, caches, cut outs, communication trees etc)... looks like they are getting it back together a bit more quickly than last time. I figured we'd have at least 2 months of lull, since this was the "big" "election". I hate that I was wrong about that.

I'd damn near kill to get Murthas plan activated so that we are essentially over the horizon in 6 months, thats only 180 days. No one will let us just pull out except the Iraqis, everyone else either has hubris playing face saving issues, or believe we can actually do something over there still, or are just loving us showing every tactic and weapon we develop. Every intell officer in foreign not so friendly governements are making millions of notes right now and over the last several years with what we do and how we react in Iraq. If we ever have to go to war with another nation they will have us figured out by baout 3 steps ahead.

This war was the most dnagerous thing we could have doen for our country and good portion of the world. Just think about the thousands and thousands of actual terrorists who have recieved top notch live fire battlefied training from the most advanced military on earth... they know our weaknesses now better than we do. They are out there in many countries teaching other terrorists what they learned at our hands in Iraq. Bushco just has to LIHOP (no MI needed) once more and wheeeeee he is dick tater for life.

Some how or another though we must just stay there and keep on training them, with our soldiers and Iraqi civilians being target practice. The longer we stay the more terrorists we train to unleash a wave of terror as of yet unexperienced. Stay that course and save that face.

31. The Iraqis have enough bombs to
outlast their occupiers. In the weapons dump at Al-Qaqaa, there were 250,000 pounds of the stuff. I think just a few ounces is enough to make a bomb that will blow people and equipment to pieces.

The bombs will even outlast the oil in Iraq.

It's time to pack up our things and GO HOME.

Grass Bush

Pile the bodies high in Austerlitz and Waterloo Iraq
Shovel them under and let me work--
I am the grass; bush; I cover all.

And pile them high in Gettyburg Baghdad
And pile them high in Ypres and Vedum Mossoul and Al Fallaujah

Two years, ten years, and passengers ask the conductor:
What place is this?

I am the grass bush.
Let me work.

40. The rape and rot of graft, and stealth, and lies,
Let America be America again.
Let it be the dream it used to be.
Let it be the pioneer on the plain
Seeking a home where he himself is free.

(America never was America to me.)

Let America be the dream the dreamers dreamed--
Let it be that great strong land of love
Where never kings connive nor tyrants scheme
That any man be crushed by one above.

(It never was America to me.)

O, let my land be a land where Liberty
Is crowned with no false patriotic wreath,
But opportunity is real, and life is free,
Equality is in the air we breathe.

(There's never been equality for me,
Nor freedom in this "homeland of the free.")

Say, who are you that mumbles in the dark?
And who are you that draws your veil across the stars?

I am the poor white, fooled and pushed apart,
I am the Negro bearing slavery's scars.
I am the red man driven from the land,
I am the immigrant clutching the hope I seek--
And finding only the same old stupid plan
Of dog eat dog, of mighty crush the weak.

I am the young man, full of strength and hope,
Tangled in that ancient endless chain
Of profit, power, gain, of grab the land!
Of grab the gold! Of grab the ways of satisfying need!
Of work the men! Of take the pay!
Of owning everything for one's own greed!

I am the farmer, bondsman to the soil.
I am the worker sold to the machine.
I am the Negro, servant to you all.
I am the people, humble, hungry, mean--
Hungry yet today despite the dream.
Beaten yet today--O, Pioneers!
I am the man who never got ahead,
The poorest worker bartered through the years.

Yet I'm the one who dreamt our basic dream
In the Old World while still a serf of kings,
Who dreamt a dream so strong, so brave, so true,
That even yet its mighty daring sings
In every brick and stone, in every furrow turned
That's made America the land it has become.
O, I'm the man who sailed those early seas
In search of what I meant to be my home--
For I'm the one who left dark Ireland's shore,
And Poland's plain, and England's grassy lea,
And torn from Black Africa's strand I came
To build a "homeland of the free."

The free?

Who said the free? Not me?
Surely not me? The millions on relief today?
The millions shot down when we strike?
The millions who have nothing for our pay?
For all the dreams we've dreamed
And all the songs we've sung
And all the hopes we've held
And all the flags we've hung,
The millions who have nothing for our pay--
Except the dream that's almost dead today.

O, let America be America again--
The land that never has been yet--
And yet must be--the land where every man is free.
The land that's mine--the poor man's, Indian's, Negro's, ME--
Who made America,
Whose sweat and blood, whose faith and pain,
Whose hand at the foundry, whose plow in the rain,
Must bring back our mighty dream again.

Sure, call me any ugly name you choose--
The steel of freedom does not stain.
From those who live like leeches on the people's lives,
We must take back our land again,
America!

O, yes,
I say it plain,
America never was America to me,
And yet I swear this oath--
America will be!

Out of the rack and ruin of our gangster death,
The rape and rot of graft, and stealth, and lies,
We, the people, must redeem
The land, the mines, the plants, the rivers.
The mountains and the endless plain--
All, all the stretch of these great green states--
And make America again!

Langston Hughes

39. Murtha is right. Get them out. There is nothing to be won militarily.
Bush and the neocons have already lost this war. Now it's just a question of how long it will take Americans to swallow their misplaced pride and demand sense from their government.

All the bush evil-doers spread is more misery, more hatred. I really miss the world where beauty, hope, mercy and kindness lived. Al-qaeda didn't take that from us. Bush's incredibly incompetent and immoral response to it did.
