Responding to this post, a CNN spokesperson released the following statement:

"Neither CNN nor Christiane Amanpour is aware of alleged eavesdropping by the government on Ms. Amanpour and we are unable to confirm this story. We are looking into it."

The NSA sends you a certified letter that you have to sign for that informs you that all of your electronic communications are being monitored. I'm glad that we can finally put this silly rumor to rest.

Now, that would be a funny prank. Send an "authorized letter" to your favorite right wing friend, advising them that they are now under surveillance by the U.S. government for activities deemed to be suspicious, in the interest of national security.

Don't use "NSA," though, make up some other acronym lest you run afoul of the law. Something like CPSA, Citizen Protection Service Agency. :)

could have been a rumour spread to mess up the message. It could be something true. It is either true or a rumour.
