Peltier loses appeal
Federal judges reject parole hearing for Indian activist

A federal appeals court in Denver refused Tuesday to grant a parole hearing to imprisoned American Indian activist Leonard Peltier.

Peltier, 59, is serving two consecutive life sentences in a federal prison in Kansas for the 1975 murders of two FBI agents on the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation in South Dakota.

The three appellate judges - Stephanie Seymour, of Oklahoma; Stephen Anderson, of Utah; and Wade Brorby, of Wyoming - also said in their 13-page ruling that the government's conduct in the case wasn't spotless.

"Much of the government's behavior at the Pine Ridge Reservation and in prosecution of Mr. Peltier is to be condemned," the judges wrote in a 13-page ruling.

1. What a travesty.
One of the things that really pissed me off about Clinton was his last-minute pardons. Remember how he pardoned some high-flying crook exiled in Europe while snubbing Peltier?

Another thing I remember was a news film of some FBI agents marching to protest any attempt to pardon Peltier. My memory may be faulty, but it really sticks in my mind; as I recall, they were practically goose-stepping, Nazi style. I remember it looked SO sinister.

2. I will be proud to begin the Clinton-bashing on this subject

Clinton should have pardoned him. He chose not to.

Leonard may forgive him, I do not.

Due to their commonality of obscene wealth. (Oh, I mean due to "the merits" of their cases. LOL)

5. Framed? So what else is new?
Have there ever been a people so thoroughly fucked over as the Native American Indigeneous Peoples?

Peltier is just one example. He's spent over a quarter century in jail for a crime he may not have even committed.

The Federal Government needed a scapegoat and it was his turn in the barrel.

6. Irony
Wouldn't it be ironic if George W. Bush pardoned Peltier, just to make Clinton look bad and perhaps get a few more minority votes?

10. Releasing Peltier would be admitting they were wrong.
Not to mention what this charismatic voice could do if he were running around loose. They've got a stooge to close the book, it wouldn't surprise me if it was "friendly fire."

12. Right.
They are never wrong and they never forgive the sort of
insubordination Peltier was "guilty" of.
