White House E-Mail System Becomes Less User-Friendly (hilarious)
NY Times story here.

<snip>
Do you want to send an e-mail message to the White House?

Good luck.

In the past, to tell President Bush — or at least those assigned to read his mail — what was on your mind it was necessary only to sit down at a personal computer connected to the Internet and dash off a note to president@whitehouse.gov.

But this week, Tom Matzzie, an online organizer with the A.F.L.-C.I.O., discovered that communicating with the White House had become a bit more daunting. When Mr. Matzzie sent an e-mail protest against a Bush administration policy, the message was bounced back with an automated reply, saying he had to send it again in a new way.

Under a system deployed on the White House Web site for the first time last week, those who want to send a message to President Bush must now navigate as many as nine Web pages and fill out a detailed form that starts by asking whether the message sender supports White House policy or differs with it. (emphasis mine)

To make things confusing as possible, on any subject, to keep the American people off balance.

1. Does this "intelligence" support the agenda of the White House"
(choose one) Yes No

2. If "no", will the inevitable leaking of this "intelligence" cause or bring about the impeachment of the pResident or the VICE pResident?
(choose one) Yes No

3. that is funny
can you still e-mail if you admit to disagreeing, and do they send some kind of virus to your computer. Do you have to tell them where you live?

18. It's all my fault. I emailed the Chimp on Wednesday.
The police haven't arrived at my house yet, but I probably am color-coded at the airport.

I'm typing this now before my pc bursts into flames.

Not that I don't trust them or anything.

ps-- you do have to list your phone, email and address. Based on my letters to the editor, I'm sure they have a file on me anyways.

4. statement in NY Times article a bit misleading
NY Times said that one has to "fill out a detailed form that starts by asking whether the message sender supports White House policy or differs with it."

I just checked whitehouse.gov, and that isn't really what they ask. They want to know at the beginning if you "want to write a supporting comment" or a "differing opinion" to President Bush. You then select a subject from a list.

My guess is he gets so much mail they can't read but a fraction of it, and this will enable them to keep a general tally of for/against for each of the subject categories.

6. Well, that;s really good news.....
because most informed people who oppose bush don't even bother to send him emails..... I mean, why? Like a million people protesting doesn't change a thing......

So does that mean that the former-supporters now turned disgusted with him are writing to him left and right? GREAT!!!!!!!

But really......it just strikes me as a way to easily divide the masses into two groups like in the concentration camps: the people going to work in the soup kitchen or the rock 'garden' vs the people sent directly to the gas chamber.

7. What is misleading?
according to the article, people wishing to email the whitehouse must navigate a form that asks "whether the message sender supports White House policy or differs with it." How does this differ significantly from "they want to know at the beginning if you 'want to write a supporting comment' or a 'differing opinion' to President Bush?"

Do you know what the meaning of is, is?

I've never before encountered any politician's email contact mechanism that employs this filter. It fits with the larger "money-colored glasses" pattern of this white house.

But the parsing by gristy does seem to be straining to make a distinction without a difference.

14. Ha!ha! Must've learned it from Whitehouse.org!
They had these forms for years now : "Are you a GOP-er or some commie" and other choices like that.
Yeah, #4 - it's perfectly understandable to sort your mail from the start in two piles: "To read" "To forward to Ashcroft".
It's like Publishers Sweepstakes telling you that no purchase is necessary, then asking you to put proof of purchase on the envelope! Of course it's understandable! The man lost his election for goodness sake!

they filter, e-mails that are with Dumbass go to the Dicktator.

e-mails against Dumbass go to Ashcroft.

Ya wonder if they're building a database for the elctronic voting?
