LOS ANGELES -- Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger received 15 stitches in his lip Sunday after he and his 12-year-old son were involved in a motorcycle accident near their home, his spokeswoman said.

Schwarzenegger was riding a Harley Davidson motorcycle with his son Patrick in the sidecar when another driver backed into the street, spokeswoman Margita Thompson said in a statement.

"The governor was unable to avoid the vehicle in his path and collided with it at a low speed," she said.

Schwarzenegger and his son were treated for cuts and bruises at St. John's Hospital in Santa Monica and released, Thompson said. Both were wearing helmets at the time, she said. They were recovering at home Sunday night.

9. Stupid ass
Does he think he's invincible?

Go ahead, kill yourself, but don't bring your child with you.

I guess this is all OK with his Stepford wife.

13. welcome to the world
of a motorcyclist.

Please note from the article that the car backed out of a driveway in front of him (a very common occurence)...if this had been car to car, the person backing out of the driveway would have been at fault...but because it involves a motorcycle, it somehow translates to the motorcyclists fault?

20. I didn't say it was the motorcyclist's fault
HOWEVER--riding a motorcycle is extremely dangerous because you are not well protected. Putting yourself at risk is one thing--putting your child in danger, quite another.

My husband used to ride a motorcycle. However, after 2 accidents, while driving cars, neither of which was his fault, and in at least one of which, if not both, he would DEFINITELY have been killed if he were on a bike-- he no longer rides a bike.

LOS ANGELES, California (CNN) -- California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger and his son, Patrick, received minor injuries Sunday afternoon in a motorcycle accident near their home, the governor's press secretary said in a written statement.

According to Margita Thompson, the governor received 15 stitches to repair a cut lip. Both he and his son also were treated for minor cuts and bruises, and were released from St. John's Hospital. The driver of the other vehicle was not injured.

"The accident occurred at around 3:15 p.m. when another driver backed into a street in front of Governor Schwarzenegger as he rode his Harley-Davidson motorcycle," Thompson said. "The governor was unable to avoid the vehicle in his path and collided with it at a low speed."

Patrick, 12, was a passenger in the motorcycle's sidecar. Both were wearing helmets at the time of the accident. "The governor is expected to keep previously scheduled appointments" on Monday, Thompson said.

22. He was riding illegally!
http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20060111/ap_on_re_us/schwarzenegger_license_7

Los Angeles Police Lt. Paul Vernon said Schwarzenegger does not have the proper endorsement on his California driver's license to operate a motorcycle.

Vernon said police did not ticket the governor for a violation because they arrived after the accident, which left Schwarzenegger with a cut on his upper lip that required 15 stitches.

Instead, officers referred their findings to the Los Angeles city attorney's office, which will determine whether the governor should be cited for an infraction. Driving a motorcycle without the proper license can result in fines ranging from $100 to $250 or more.
