Bush: hearings on eavesdropping plan "good for democracy"

President Bush said planned congressional hearings on his domestic eavesdropping program will be "good for democracy."

At a town-hall-style meeting in Louisville, the president said he knows the once-secret program's controversial. But he again defended it as limited -- and fully constitutional.

Soon after 9/11, Bush authorized the National Security Agency to intercept phone calls and e-mails between America and foreign countries.

Bush said the Capitol Hill hearings will be positive as long as they don't get into the detailed workings of the eavesdropping. He said that could tip off the terrorist enemy.

and hell, wait till these hearings begin and suddenly they decide it has to be behind closed doors. then we'll hear that all sorts of things are a 'national security matter' and cannot be disclosed...
