Santorum says liberals, media are undermining war support

VALLEY FORGE, Pa. - Sen. Rick Santorum on Thursday accused the news media and liberals of undermining support for the Iraq war at a time when, he said, Islamic fundamentalist pose a serious threat to national security.

"The challenge for liberty today, the challenge for our generation is the spread of Islamic fascism," said Santorum, the No. 3 Senate Republican.

Speaking for about an hour to more than 300 cadets at the Valley Forge Military Academy, Santorum said public support for the war has been difficult to maintain because of "biased coverage of the war and the political left demagoguery of the war."

He also urged President Bush to create an independent panel to examine progress in Iraq that should be a "look forward not a look back." Last week, Santorum wrote a lettter to Bush asking for the panel to be created.

and show us how the media and liberals are wrong?

Like we're always told; don't complain unless you have a solution that involves YOU.

I just made a suggestion for him. Unless he has a better one, and I would tune in to see him show us.

Pity this islamic fascism tripe didn't start when we halped the same buggers in the 1980s... oh yeah, that's when Russia and China were fascist.

Fascism is a variable commodity.

5. This is going to be the gist of the GOP's campaign this year
They have nothing else to run on. They're corrupt, fiscally irresponsible, and probably clinically insane as well. So the only thing that they think is in their favor is the reichwing's support for killing in the name of God and the negative connotation of the word liberal with the wingnuts. So...

you're going to hear "liberals are undermining the War" repeated ad nauseum. I personally hope they try this strategy because ignoring all of the other issues and putting their crazy little eggs all in one basket will come back to haunt them.

19. Family Values should not be an advantage to the GOP
Abortions have increased during the last five years. Millions of kids have lost health coverage under Bush and the GOP. Families, and especially the poor and elderly, can't afford to eat because gas, prescription drugs and heating prices have increased so much. Minimum wage hasn't increased in more than 10 years. A person now has to work half an hour just to pay for one gallon of gas. To top it off, we are not safer now than we were before Bush. We are more at risk because of our governments arrogance towards the rest of the world.

The GOP doesn't run on family values. They run on a warped version of it based on hatred and fearmongering. Hence their attacks on gay rights and women's rights.

9. This is important, if you think about it
Little Ricky the parrot is just repeating what Dear Leader has been saying the past few days. They've been backed into a corner by a fake war, inept governing, neverending debt, and corruption as far as the eye can see. It's the only response KKKarl knows (rabid dog that he is) -- to wildly throw the ol' "Librul Traitors" mud and see if it will stick. This is what is to come, folks. "When does the roundup begin?" indeed. Make no mistake, it could come to that.

There is only one enemy real here -- the Media. They've been conditioned and bought out by the Right; they're just an echo chamber, and they'll keep on repeating Repug slime until they're stopped. We can't let up on them -- we have to call them on every lie, blow the whistle on every nod-and-wink relationship. The truth MUST be told. And especially, to you DU'ers on the inside of the media conglomerates (and I know there must be some out there) -- we're depending on you to bring these bastards down, whether it's by anonymous e-mails or phone calls. We need more "Deep Throats", but this time in the MEDIA, not the government.

29. Islamic fascism is fueled
by the same power and money game fueling fascism worldwide. Competitive fascism doesn't interest me. A total ban and undercutting it does. Most people in those nations would look to communists or fascist in desperation or as "doers". obviously a civilized alternative is more to the point than more violence and suffering and repression. A culture war is EXACTLY what emotionally fuels fascism which is corporate takeover behind an angry guy mob.

with the Saudis selling that bill of goods is that it only multiplies their woes. I bet the CIA or someone here encouraged that idiotic ploy knowing full well it would deflect but train the radicals who never give up their desire to get rid of their own regime. Now the Saudis are resposnsible for everything esepecially fueling the forces of their own destruction.

And you are right. Blowhard dummies and box minds need a lot of dough and manipulators to drive their engine. The only thing they give up of course is total control.

37. So am I
I'm far more likely to be badly affected by the shrill, abusive, fundamentalist right-wing than I am by Islamic terrorists. The right-wing here is trying to control every aspect of our lives, taking away women's rights, denying equal rights to gays, and quashing the First Amendment, and those are issues which I care deeply about. They are ruining the economy, harming families, and causing even death...think old people freezing because they can't afford heat, or medicine...all of these negative things are being made possible by the unholy marriage of Republicans and the fundies who vote them into office.

I haven't noticed any spread of Islamic fascism in this country, nor have I noticed any policies of ours that are likely to lessen it's spread in other parts of the world, so I honestly don't see that criticizing our policies is likely to cause any harm. I am seeing alot of fascism in this country that's stemming from various strains of Christian fundamentalism. I don't suppose that Little Ricky is concerned about that sort of fascism, other than promoting it as hard as he can.

66. Ricky got it wrong again
Edited on Fri Jan-13-06 10:10 AM by jamesinca
"The challenge for liberty today, the challenge for our generation is the spread of Islamic fascism,"
No Ricky it is the spread of Christian fascism. Justice Sunday 3 was the latest episode of its ministry of propaganda at work.

On second thought, maybe he is right. I think the oil companies might have something to say about the government in Saudi Arabia. But I doubt he was referring to that. Maybe he was making a reference to the Bush "faith based initiatives", and right wing ministers like Robertson, Reed, Falwell, Phelps, anybody from the SBC or hired by Bob Jones University. After all, don't they make government policy for this administration. I think their influence was most recently felt with the Harriet Meyers debacle. But that last thig would be Christian fascism, so I have to stand by my original thought, Ricky is wrong again.

This guy is such a far right whack job, that even some of the fundie wing nuts are distancing themselves. I'm appaled that the voters of Pa. voted this moron in. The problem is that he is a danerous idiot, with his power, perks and bully pulpit. Thank God for 2006 and the elections coming up!
