59. Yup, clearly another victim of the all-powerful Liberal Conspiracy!
I certainly had my doubts about 'Project X' when we started it,
but it sure as heck seems to be working well.

So many honest, patriotic Repubs are falling under
the weight of our Satanic Commie Plot,
it's clear that I was wrong to doubt it!

So, heres today's secret coded message,
fellow God-Hating Traitors:
"Santorum's dog pees on the sofa."

Transmission ends.

WASHINGTON - Embattled Ohio Republican Bob Ney is in talks with House Speaker Dennis Hastert about resigning his chairmanship of the House Administration Committee, a senior House GOP aide told The Associated Press on Friday.

Ney has been linked to the Jack Abramoff lobbying scandal and has denied wrongdoing in the burgeoning scandal. But he is facing the loss of his chairmanship as House Republicans seek to implement an ambitious lobbying reform agenda, much of which would pass through his committee.

Rep. Ney under pressure to resign chairmanship

WASHINGTON (AP) -- Embattled Ohio Republican Bob Ney is in talks with House Speaker Dennis Hastert about resigning his chairmanship of the House Administration Committee, a senior House GOP aide told The Associated Press on Friday.

Ney has been linked to the Jack Abramoff lobbying scandal and has denied wrongdoing in the burgeoning scandal. But he is facing the loss of his chairmanship as House Republicans seek to implement an ambitious lobbying reform agenda, much of which would pass through his committee.

"There have been ongoing discussions between Speaker Hastert and Rep. Ney about his role as chairman of the House Administration Committee," said Hastert spokesman Ron Bonjean.

The development comes after Abramoff's plea agreement this month in an influence peddling scandal involving members of Congress. Among other accusations, Abramoff said Ney took favors including a 2002 golf trip to Scotland, free dinners and events and campaign donations in exchange for his support of Abramoff's American Indian tribe clients in Texas and the lobbyist's purchase of a fleet of Florida casino boats.

32. Ohio Dem Party demanded this 10 days ago-
HASTERT SHOULD STEP IN!

NEY EMBROILED IN MORE SCANDAL;
FOR GOOD OF COUNTRY, NEY SHOULD FOLLOW DeLAY LEAD & STEP DOWN FROM COMMITTEE CHAIRMANSHIP
For Immediate Release January 3, 2006
Contact: Brian Rothenberg, Comm. Dir. Phone: 614-221-6563

COLUMBUS – With the revelation by the Department of Justice today that indicted Lobbyist Jack Abramoff has agreed to a plea deal and published reports that Congressman Bob Ney (R-Newark) is one of the main legislators mentioned in the Abramoff case, the Ohio Democratic Party called on Mr. Ney to step down from his powerful House Administration Committee Chairmanship in Congress.

The plea deal released earlier today appears to refers to influence peddling and references a Congressman as "Representative No. 1" who took trips to Scotland. Ney was previously reported to have been on the receiving end of a trip to Scotland involving Abramoff and his clients.

“Congressman DeLay has set the standard for indicted Congressman by stepping aside, with an ethics cloud of prosecutors circling, Bob Ney should do the same,” said Chris Redfern, Chair of the Ohio Democratic Party.

“Bob Ney is dragging the nation through sordid articles, ethical questions and the legal scrutiny as it increasingly leads to a likely indictment. He arrogantly claims he is duped and that these allegations are political. But we are pretty clear as these allegations unravel that this isn’t political, it is criminal,” said Mr. Redfern.
Rep. Ney according to recent FEC reports arranged for his campaign to pay $135,881 in legal fees in connection with federal and Miami based investigations into his actions.

“If Bob Ney doesn’t voluntarily step down from his Committee Chairmanship, Speaker Hastert should force the matter,” said Mr. Redfern. “When you look at the allegations involving Mr. Abramoff, it is clear that the influence of Congressmen appear to be the basis for the plea bargain. Bob Ney shouldn’t be in that position of influence unless he is cleared.”

38. Breaking: Hastert Asks Ney To Resign As Admin. Cmte. Chair
http://hotlineblog.nationaljournal.com/archives/2006/01/breaking_haster.html#comments

House Speaker Dennis Hastert has asked Rep. Bob Ney (R-OH) to step down from his post as chairman of the House Administration Committee, three sources with knowledge of the request said today.

A source close to Hastert said the Speaker does not want to unveil lobbying reform legislation with Ney still in possession of a senior House position.

<snip>

A House leadership aide said that Hastert "is moving the behind the scenes for the greater good of the conference and handling it in the most dignified way as possible."

Hastert and others in the conference publicly supported Ney until Jack Abramoff reached an agreement with prosecutors. As recently as several days ago, Hastert praised Ney's stewardship of the committee.

60. LOL!! It's a regular cascading culture of corruption!! Hey--
have you seen this? It's an Op-Ed by Harry Reid:

"In 1977, I was appointed chairman of the Nevada Gaming Commission. It was a difficult time for the gaming industry and Las Vegas, which were being overrun by organized crime. To that point in my life, I had served in the Nevada Assembly and even as lieutenant governor, but nothing prepared me for my fight with the mob.

Over the next few years, there would be threats on my life, bribes, FBI stings and even a car bomb placed in my family's station wagon. It was a terrifying experience, but at the end of the day, we cleaned up Las Vegas and ushered in a new era of responsibility.

My term on the gaming commission came to an end in 1981, and when it did, I thought I had seen such corruption for the last time. Unfortunately, that has not been the case. It is not quite the mafia of Las Vegas in the 1970s, but what is happening today in Washington is every bit as corrupt and the consequences for our country have been severe.

Our nation's capital has been overrun by organized crime — Tom DeLay-style.

The gangsters are the lobbyists, cronies and lawmakers who have banded together and abused their power to serve their own self-interest. The casinos are the Capitol, which has had its doors thrown open for special interests to waltz in and help themselves, and the victims, of course, are the American people.

There is a price to pay for the culture of corruption, and we can see it in the state of our union.

Consider the state of our economy. On one side is Big Oil, which reaped $100 billion in profits in 2005. On the other side are middle-class families. Their wages are declining at the same time they are paying more for gas, heat, education and other needs.

Take the state of health care. On one side are the HMOs that benefited greatly from a $10 billion slush fund in the Medicare bill. On the other side are seniors who face gaps in their coverage and the high cost of prescription drugs.

And then there is our national debt. On one side are the special interests and the multimillionaires who have received tremendous tax breaks over the last five years. On the other side are our children and grandchildren who will pay for these tax cuts when they inherit billions in debt.

In our country today, we are seeing what happens when lawmakers and lobbyists conspire to put the needs of special interests before the needs of the American people. We have a country that grows more dependent on foreign oil each day. We have cronyism like that exposed by Hurricane Katrina, and we have a national security policy that does a good job of protecting Halliburton's bottom-line but not a good enough job protecting the American people."

I thought it was outstanding!!
