Bush says his wife would never run for Senate

STERLING, Va. - The Senate may be the place for some former first ladies, but President Bush on Thursday categorically ruled out a run for office by his wife, Laura Bush.

"She's not interested in running for office. She's interested in literacy," Bush said during an appearance at RK Moving & Storage here.

The topic came up as the president took questions from his audience after a speech on the economy. A woman asked if Mrs. Bush would ever run for Senate from the first couple's home state of Texas, and Bush responded "never" - twice.

He also declined the woman's plea that she at least ask Mrs. Bush if she might be willing.

If she's busy being a Senator? Besides, she hasn't worked at a real job since her 20's, she's categorically unqualified.

27. Talk about walking right into it.
Granted, no reporter who wants to stay employed would consider asking the obvious follow-up question regarding Bush's own lack of literacy.

However, it would have been been priceless to see Bush's face if someone had basically thought, "Oh the hell with it..." and tossed it out there.

Remember this?

"A photograph shows the visitors book of the Yad Vashem Holocaust museum after U.S. first lady Laura Bush signed and wrote in it during her visit to Jerusalem Sunday May 22, 2005. She wrote in the visitors' book at the site, 'Each life is precious. Each memory calls us to action to honor those lost. We committ (sic) ourselves to reject hatred and to teach tolerance and live in peace.' (AP Photo/Emilio Morenatti)"

30. You're right. She's not dumb. Just not qualified
for either running for the Senate OR being in charge of ending gang violence. (remember that?).
She's qualified to be a former librarian with minimal work experience. She's qualified to be a political wife -- which I'm sure IS a very demanding job. And she's qualified to be the mother of two daughters and the wife of one of the world's most influential people.
Hillary has years of experience as a corporate lawyer and advocate. There is no comparison.
And Rosalyn, despite not having "work" experience (yet the hardest working First Lady in my lifetime), has been tireless in her travels and advocacy for the disadvantaged of the world. I'd vote for her in a second.

54. No, she isn't dumb. That makes it worse.
Calling someone dumb and stupid when they aren't is actually giving them an excuse -- it's taking away their personal responsibility for their words and actions. Laura Bush is intelligent and educated -- she just wishes to not use her natural abilities for the betterment of Mankind. That makes her complacent, and accessory to the rape of the US and the world, and yes -- even evil.

But she is NOT dumb. Remember that. She knows what she's doing.

76. I know what it takes to get an MLS, and they are not unintelligent
They are just idiots. You can't be dumb and pass a Cataloging course. You can't be dumb and do well in a class on information ethics. You can't be dumb and use XML, TEI, etc. and process digital images. Out of the about 50 MLIS's I work with, none are dumb. Some are idiots, but none are unintelligent. And, even though I know there's a "pecking order" in the world of librarians, I for one have never thought public librarians are dumb... although the Dewey DEcimal has gotta go... Cataloging book using Dewey is akin to sticking nails in your eyes.

84. The question is..
.. how much of that existed 20-30 odd years ago, when she had her last work experience? According to wikipedia, she last worked as a Librarian in 1977, and I doubt that digital images were around back then. As for TEI, it has been used since 1994 - and I have no idea what XML is a short for (unless it's Extensible Markup Language).

90. Just a matter of semantics.......
"dumb" "idiots" "unintelligent", etc. etc. etc.

You don't have to get straight A's in your coursework to get the MLS either. Some of these librarians I work with barely squeaked by. I always had the impression that librarians would be very well-rounded people and at least try to know a little bit about lots of subjects, and maybe have a couple areas where they excelled. But some of our librarians can't add two numbers of three digits together without a calculator nor do they keep up on current events. Working side by side with them there have been times when a patron will come ask a question and I end up answering it because they look dumbfounded and don't even have a clue about what they're asking.

For someone so interested in 'literacy', why is it that her first student (the one she lives with) is failing so miserably? Perhaps she needs to consider another career altogether; perhaps a 'Stepford wife English teacher'!

68. Though there were plans to make Barney Plenipotentiary Ambassador of Iraq
Bush had decided on Barney, because he didn't know any Basset hounds, which Bush thought were the usual fillers of "Ambassetorial" positions. But Bush felt that Barney's constant need to shag people's legs certainly fullfilled the "Plentipotentiary" part of the position.

... unlike Senator Clinton, I suppose.

Although if it means that we're to be spared "Senator Pickles", I guess I have no complaint...

73. Perhaps President Stupid meant to say literature. Laura
couldn't possibly be interested in literacy, married to a moran like *.

so why would he rule out her being in government?? Clearly being a compasionless dumb fuck is not an obstacle. But of course, the Stepford wife must obey her husband at all times.

85. Pickles would never survive an election campaign.
Before you have a litter of kittens, Agent Mike, I mean that certain "aspects" of her past would surely be examined IN DETAIL. Not to mention her association with unsavory characters, like her husband.

89. Divine hierarchy: God Almighty-->Jesus Christ-->Husband-->Wife
 What he says, goes -- I'm sure his base gets the message.

On the other hand, the less-fundy Repubs may find his response egotistical in the extreme and wonder why he doesn't defer to Laura's opinion. Schmuck.

91. Hard to tell if she's intelligent or not..
as she always seems to be in a trance. More importantly, I think she's plain lazy. How often does she even make public appearances or give television interviews? When she does, she can't even be bothered to find out the name of a major disaster (Karrina).

93. There must have been a big moving
truck making noise outside when chimp was talking. The reporter got it wrong. What the moron really said was "She's interested in idiocy. That's why she married me."
