Philadelphia-Area Families Latest to Get Discounted Venezuelan Heating Oil
The Associated Press

PHILADELPHIA Jan 27, 2006 — Low-income families in the Philadelphia area will receive discounted Venezuelan heating oil in the latest deal bringing fuel to U.S. communities that Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez claims are neglected by Washington.

Citgo, the Houston subsidiary of the Venezuelan national oil company, will ship 5 million gallons of heating oil marked down by 40 percent for distribution to low-income families next month in a deal brokered by Democratic Rep. Chaka Fattah.

Similar shipments have been made to New York City, Vermont, Rhode Island, Massachusetts and American Indian reservations in Maine.

Fattah said receiving the Venezuelan oil wasn't embarrassing and filled a real need. "This is not a political matter we have the ability to keep families in the Philadelphia area warm," he said.

7. Making him LOOK like a FOOL?
True, but it's also very true that he is a fool all on his own. Besides, he has much more help in that department than he needs - the entire Republican party. He don't need no stinking Chavez.

2. Thank you Hugo!!! We love you for helping our fellow Americans.
We are comforted to know that someone is helping those in need, unlike our own so-called president who does not care about poor people.

3. "Fattah said receiving the Venezuelan oil wasn't embarrassing"
It should embarrass the f**king hell out of that snot-nosed punk in the WH. If he had the sense god gave a gnat he would be humiliated, but the little narcissist is clearly clueless.

5. Yes, he is a good guy.
However, he should put a bit of heat on the chimp. Jeez, we need to shine the light where is should be shone. I've worked taking care of the poorest in North Philly and, it is truly a crime to have Americans (ANY AMERICANS) living the way many of them do.

Thank you Mr. Chavez!

Venezuela donates heating oil again to U.S. poor

PHILADELPHIA, Jan 27 (Reuters) - Some low-income households in the Philadelphia area will get cheap heating oil from Venezuela, officials said on Friday, in the latest snipe by leftist President Hugo Chavez against the U.S. government.

The donations deepen an ongoing spat between Chavez and President George W. Bush, who calls Chavez a threat to democracy in Latin America. Socialist Chavez says Bush is trying to undermine his political support.

The world's fifth-biggest oil exporter will supply 5 million gallons (22.7 million liters) of heating oil starting next month to about 25,000 households that qualify for state home heat assistance but have exhausted their allocation for this winter, said Ron Goldwyn, a spokesman for Rep. Chaka Fattah, Democrat of Pennsylvania.

The households, which will be entitled to as much as 200 gallons (909 liters) each, will have to pay just 60 percent of the retail price for the Venezuelan fuel.

Pennsylvania is the fifth state to receive cheap oil from Venezuela, following shipments to Massachusetts and New York in November, and Maine and Rhode Island earlier in January.
