Iraq shop attack leaves 10 dead
Edited on Sun Jan-29-06 01:42 AM by cal04
At least 10 people have been killed in a bomb attack south of Baghdad, Iraqi police say.
They said the bomb had been planted outside a shop in Iskandariya, a predominantly Shia town about 40 km (25 miles) from the capital.

At least three other people were injured in the overnight blast.

Sunni Arab insurgents have been waging a campaign of bombings and shootings in an effort to overthrow the Shia-led Iraqi government.

1. Exactly why are we there?
It's not our business and they were never a threat to us. They are now involved in civil war. W wouldn't even listen to his father's advice to stay out of ME occupation to avoid chaos in the whole region.

2. And actually some have said that Shia forces are doing some of
the attacks so it will be blamed on the Sunnis. Not all the "insurgents" are Sunni or foreigners. It's a freaking mess. Others more informed than me in the area say it is a virtual civil war.

Meanwhile, people who just want to live their daily lives in peace suffer. While on occasion foreigners are kidnapped and Lord knows I do sympathize with them and wish them a safe release, Iraqis are kidnapped daily and killed. In addition to the bombings.

Perhaps if the Reconstruction had actually happened in a timely fashion without the carpetbagging corruption, perhaps there may have been a chance for some stability and peace. Maybe not. Maybe the disintegration into factional fighting (and another theocracy) was an inevitable consequence, as indeed I thought it would be before the war. But this is a clusterfuck that has damaged the people of two nations at least and has unleased a plethora of "unintended consequences" and "collateral damage" that will be with us---and them---for decades to come.

(Excuse me for venting, but this is what I think whenever I see these sorts of reports.)
