London police 'faked evidence' on shot Brazilian: report
Our "protectors" show their true stripes once again.

Undercover London police officers faked vital evidence to cover up their fatal role in the shooting of innocent Brazilian Jean Charles de Menezes, mistaken for a suicide bomber, a newspaper has alleged.

Special Branch officers from London's Metropolitan Police tried to change a surveillance log detailing the electrician's movements to hide the fact that they had wrongly identified him, the News of the World weekly claimed.

---

He was killed on July 22 last year, the day after an alleged attempt to replicate the July 7 attacks by four suspected suicide bombers which killed 52 innocent Underground and bus commuters.

The alleged cover-up meant the blame for the tragedy would have been pinned on senior Met Police commanders or the armed police who fired the bullets -- leaving them open to murder charges, the newspaper said.

2. And this comes out only now.
Because we wouldn't want the Special Branch officers to be distracted from their job of protecting the public, whether guilty or not.

Ugh...

3. big surprise.....
Frankly, at this point in time, the Brits have it over the States as far as fascist laws go. Their surveillance over the public probably beats ours now too (granted, just give us a little time, since our country covers more territory than theirs).

4. And I doubt if an Outer Mongolian yak herder would be more
unworldly and politically apathetic than the British people.

The only people passionate enough about politics to stop our slide into corporatism and the consequent ruination of the nation are the politicians, and they're quite happy with things as they are.

11. But you have fiercely progressive and committed DUers,
bloggers, journalist, etc., galore. Relatively few perhaps, in relation to your electorate, but they are an army of commandos in relation to ours, pro rata.

14. I'm sure they'll use the same arguments the next time
Some people's faith in authority does not seem to diminish regardless of the number of times authority is shown to be corrupt, mendacious, and incompetent.

16. I followed the threads very closely
and don't remember anyone posting that it was okay he got shot.

Anyway this is a clear example of blame-shifting from the surveillance people to the people who actually did the shooting. It's a cock-up rather than dark government conspiracy.

17. Some posters definitely supported the cops
when it was clear to many of us that their story was full of holes. Some people continued to support the cops as each piece of their fabrication came apart - the "heavy coat," the "dark skin,"

the "jumping the turnstile," etc.

I think that's all the poster meant.

22. Anyone with a Brown skin who gets smoked by the Cops
Gets a certain public safety element (like schumer) here into an orgasmic state of Arousal

They then, need to flee into their closets, to viciously pursue self abuse, and masturbate

29. I call those the Punishist Posse
And you can add to the "brown skins":

- Users of marijuana;
- Anybody who's not a repressed puritan prude about sex;
- Schoolchildren who, at any moment, entertain the possibility that a direct order from a school authority may not be wise;
- People who download songs or videos off the Internet;
- And certainly some other "undesirables" I forgot.

23. then we exist in parallel universes.
The defense here of the de menezes shooting was loud and clear and went on for days. In fact each and every time we have one of these wonderful police events that make our society so much safer, we have a set of the loud and clear who can find no fault in the murder of innocents so long as those committing murder are doing so under the authority of the state.

15. Well, if de Menezes hadn't done anything wrong, he wouldn't have been shot
Sounds kind of hollow, doesn't it? The authorities gun someone down, paint a bullseye target around the body and say, "See? Told ya he was a terrorist! We got him!" Only to have a slightly closer look turn up some inconvenient facts.

Next time one of these know-nothing jerks gives me that "if you haven't done anything wrong" nonsense, I'm going to ask him for a copy of his latest tax return. For "national security" reasons, of course.

20. He didn't do anything at all. They thought he was someone
else and so they killed him. It sounds like he never had a clue what was coming up until the moment they shot him.

19. Proof that this "war on terror" BULLSHIT that BushCo and Blair have sold
to their citizens comes at too high a price! Not only did this innocent man die, but then those in power tried to cover it up! Unfreakinreal! This so called "war on terror" is nothing more than a way for those in power to grab even more power. I'm so disgusted at the way these ASSHOLES like Bush and Blair profit from 9/11 that it makes me sick. :puke:

The record is there for all to see - both of how the cops/authorities behaved and of how several DU'ers supported them. I would like to think they will be a little more skeptical of the "official story" next time.
