Loud Explosion Echoes Across Baghdad
Sat November 8, 2003 12:48 PM ET

BAGHDAD (Reuters) - A loud explosion, probably caused by a mortar or rocket, echoed across the Iraqi capital Baghdad on Saturday evening, Reuters witnesses said.

The sound of the explosion came from the West bank of the Tigris River, an area where the U.S.-led administration has its headquarters in the city. The precise location was not clear, but it follows mortar attacks on the complex earlier this week.

(This is all that's posted on the Reuters website.)

3. Meanwhile...
CNN is current doing a remarkably overt sales presentation for luxury cruises, FAUX is talking about Rosie's trial, and CNBC seems to be selling some sort of skin treatment.

24. Nice link - oved the quote at the top of the page
"The story of what we've done in the postwar period is remarkable. ... It is a better and more important story than losing a couple of soldiers every day." George Nethercutt (R-WA)

Sums up Right wingers attitudes about war an human life in general (unless, of course, unborn!). Nethercutt should be removed from office for diminishing the memories of those poor, dead kids, who died to make profitis for Dick Cheney and friends.

A series of explosions rocks central Baghdad
Saturday 08 November 2003

A number of explosions have been heard in central Baghdad. First reports make no mention of casualties or damage.

Eyewitnesses say three explosions were heard in the direction of the west bank of the river Tigres, an area is close to the US-led coalition headquarters in the city.

A US military spokesperson has confirmed that there were two quick successive blasts in the capital, which may have been caused by rockets or mortars.

If confirmed this would be the third attack on the Iraqi capital by insurgents this week.

25. I guess this explains all those transports that
we spotted flying over the UK earlier in the week (post on DU Tuesday or Wed). I think this isn't so much retaliation for the Blackhawk, but is BushCo* getting desparate for control.

They will use the Blackhawk for an excuse, but the planes were already in the air. They know they are losing what little grip they had on the situation. Georgie and hte Neo-convicts have gotten us in a deep hole and are asking for bigger shovels...

US headquarters targeted by Iraqi rockets

Saturday 08 November 2003, 22:42 Makka Time, 19:42 GMT

Anti-American attacks have been getting bolder and more sophisticated

Resistance fighters have fired a rocket close to the US-led coalition headquarters in central Baghdad. There are no reported injuries.

A US army spokesperson confirmed that two explosions were heard in close succession echoing across the city.

This is the third rocket attack on Baghdad in a week. In that time 30 soldiers have been killed in attacks across Iraq, the highest number since the invasion of the country in April.

The rocket landed close to the coalition headquarters, landing in the garden of a train station close to the sprawling building that houses US occupation force officials.

This is probably nothing, but remember how the Iraqis always gave a press conference on Sunday mornings? I always thought it was for the benefit of the Meet the Press, et al.
