UN council, bowing to Bolton, sets daily briefings

UNITED NATIONS, Feb 3 (Reuters) - U.N. Security Council members bowed to U.S. Ambassador John Bolton on Friday and agreed to attend regular morning briefings on the latest world developments, even when they were not otherwise meeting.

While some council members grumbled when Bolton made the request on Thursday that they were too busy for the daily briefings, "sweet reason prevailed and today the council agreed to try it as an experiment," he said.

The new daily briefings are due to begin next Tuesday, when Haiti holds presidential elections, and will regularly cover "hot spots and crises and overnight events around the world," Bolton said.

But at the insistence of Chinese Ambassador Wang Guangya, the experiment was limited to an initial two-week period, council diplomats said.

1. A 2 week experiment to appease the bastard isn't exactly "bowing".
Can't you just picture it. Every morning a room full of people, resenting the fact they are even there, wasting time for a damned meeting. Bolton goes around the table asking for updates from overnight. One by one they reply "nothing new", "nothing happening", "nothing going on". That or worse yet, they'll bring up something trivial. By the end of the 2 weeks it will be obvious to everyone it's a big waste of time and effort and they'll decide it would be best to just call a meeting should a "hot spot or crisis" develop overnight. Bolton is such a jerk, reminds me soooo much of my old boss.
