LOS ANGELES (Hollywood Reporter) - Paramount's new specialty division has acquired worldwide rights to Participant Prods.' global-warming documentary "An Inconvenient Truth," featuring Al Gore.

Helmed by Davis Guggenheim ("Deadwood," "The First Year"), the film, which had its world premiere at last month's Sundance Film Festival, weaves the science behind the issue of global warming with the former vice president's personal history and longtime commitment to communicating the pressing need to reverse the effects of global climate change.

To coincide with the release of the film -- scheduled for May 26 -- Rodale Books will publish "An Inconvenient Truth," Gore's follow-up to his best-seller "Earth in the Balance: Ecology and the Human Spirit," which was published by Plume Books in 1992.

3. Hopefully, my next must-see film
and hopefully, it will disturb the American people and finally get their minds pondering the global warming problem. Al Gore just might be the personification of truth.

5. That is great news. Say, are there TWO Gores?
I watched Al's Global Warming slide show last year as presented to some group in New York. I was shocked by his focus and energy.
Now I'll admit I did not follow him everywhere on the campaign trail but seems to me "Campaign Gore" was packaged and stiff and
"Global Warming" Gore was a different, passionate and more engaging guy. IMHO.
Very glad his message will get new exposure.

12. Through the media you *NEVER SAW* the real Gore.
In person, he was energized, knowledgeable, and authentic.
Through the media, he was a wooden, lying, serial exagerator.

Which, in fact, was just the media projecting their woes on Al.

Par unit heats up over global warming

Specialty division picks up Gore climate doc

By CHRIS GARDNER, IAN MOHR

Paramount's specialty division has acquired worldwide distribution rights to the documentary "An Inconvenient Truth," featuring former vice president Al Gore.

The Participant Prods. docudocu weaves the science of global warming with Gore's personal history and longtime commitment to communicating the need to reverse the effects of climate change.

To coincide with the release of the film, Rodale Books will publish tome "An Inconvenient Truth," Gore's follow-up to "Earth in the Balance: Ecology and the Human Spirit." Rollout is planned for May 26.

"I decided to take part in this documentary because the filmmakers convinced me that it was the best way to get the word out to as large an audience as possible, and to convince more people to look at the truth of our circumstances," Gore said in a statement. "We are recklessly, mindlessly destroying the Earth."

11. The Penguins in the desert cover
Edited on Tue Feb-14-06 03:32 PM by Uncle Joe
is a most excellent play off of "The March Of The Penguins". We sure have slid a long way, with our former Vice President and elected President doing his very best to save the planet. And the current occupant of Air Force Two outing our covert CIA agents and shooting his hunting partner.

Edit for P.S. I have decided if anyone in my office wishes to see this movie, I will buy their ticket.

14. Sweet
I was at the films premiere at Sundance last month and I'm so glad this is going to get some national distribution. The documentary was so moving and inspiring that just about everyone in the theater was ready to become an activist.

Aside from Gore's presentation, it is intercut with aspects of his life painting a picture as to why the issue is so dear to his heart, as well as the fallout of the election and beyond. It give us such a humanistic view of the former VP that if this came out before the 2000 election it would have been a landslide.

The most disappointing part was getting to see how compassionate and intelligent Gore really is, and thinking about how the world should be so much different right now.

Another stand out political film at the fest this year was American Blackout, focusing on Cynthia Mckinney and the disenfranchisement of the black vote in Florida and Ohio, which was even more powerful that Fahrenheit 911.
