Bush Brings Terrorism Talk Friday To Port Of Tampa
Bush Brings Terrorism Talk Friday To Port Of Tampa

By MICHAEL FECHTER
Published: Feb 16, 2006

TAMPA - President Bush is scheduled to spend a few hours on Friday afternoon in Tampa talking terrorism.

A speech by Bush on terrorism and the town hall meeting will be at the Tampa Port Authority's Terminal 3. It is sponsored by the St. Petersburg Area and Greater Tampa chambers of commerce.

The chambers have invited area business and civic leaders to attend, said John T. Long, president of the St. Petersburg chamber. About 500 people are expected. The Tampa chamber's e-mail invitation indicated it had 100 seats available, but the deadline to respond was at the close of business Wednesday.

Bush often speaks to prescreened audiences of supporters, but Long said the chambers are not inquiring about politics when accepting an R.S.V.P. "We want the audience to look like our community," he said.

Pinellas County Republican Chairman Tony Dimatteo said he was not aware of the Tampa speech.

4. They're not asking about political party when receiving an RSVP
but I can damn well assure you that political party was a consideration when they sent the invitations.

10. Thanks for that site reference
It helps but is still confusing. Why do we have anyone except U.S. businesses running any part of our port system. This is all unbelievable. All the article mentioned was Repubs that were objecting, this makes no sense why are no dems objecting. And yet Gore gets hammered for saying while in Saudia Arabia, terrorist friendly, that we shouldn't have treated Arabs so poorly while incarcerated here and abroad, and arresting them without clear reason. The bush bunch don't mind playing it both ways, locking arabs up without cause or hearings yet give the Saudis port authority (authority goes both was, ha)

6. Tampa Port Authority, is that one of the ports that will be run
by a company from Saudia Arabia? Lou Dobbs keeps mentioning a Saudi company that will be running most of our major ports if the agreement goes through. This has gotton no press. Am I just not hearing right or is this totally insane and no one is noticing?

8. The Port of Miami is part of the takeover, not Tampa. A nice blue area.
And it is getting virtually no coverage.

16. Port security to the UAE
I first read this story in last Sunday's Seattle newspaper; they picked it up off the AP wire. I cannot understand why the MSM isn't all over this.

9. Is "Terror" the fool's middle name?
How crass! Speaking of the incompetent -

what exactly has Dick Cheney done for this country as VP. Does he do any tangible work? I have never seen him hold a press conference, talk about the economy, discuss healthcare or working families or the poor.

actually working instead of jet-setting around the country giving speeches to his supporters every other day?

22. Must be a canned speech. I live here, and nobody has mentioned
it. It was published today on tbo.com, The Tampa Tribune's online site. Pathetic. Ticketmaster tells me when some shit band is coming to town 4 months from now, but it seems strategic that there's little press release about the pResident coming to town.

As usual, DU is my primary news source.
