Washington, February 18: US President George W Bush has defended the civilian nuclear energy arrangement with India, saying it is "good policy" for America to encourage emerging economies to use clean energy like nuclear power.

"I believe that it is a good policy for the United States to encourage these emerging economies to use clean energy, nuclear power, so as to help reduce demand for kind of non-renewables. And so I'm going to talk to them about development of a civilian nuclear power industry", said Bush, referring to his India visit in response to a question from the audience during a meeting at Tampa in Florida on Friday.

The President, who said he would be visiting India "on March the 1st", said the deal was in the interests of the United States.

"But this expansion of nuclear power - …It's in our interests," Bush said, adding, "…We've got to get off of hydrocarbons. We just do. And I'm A believer in nuclear power".
(snip/...)

be held liable for their piss-poor efforts? Or will India be forced pay for itself like they did in the 1980s after the Bhopal disaster by Union Carbide where thousands were poisoned to death due to a chemical leak?

My guess is they will get off scott free as they did in the case of Bhopal.

Hell, I wouldn't be surprised if the terms of the deal protect the contractor from liability.

4. "But this expansion of nuclear power....it's in our interests".
For some. For others it's the fastest way to ensure that your country will be reduced to smoldering rubble. It's up to the genius of george bush to decide which.

5. it's easy to decide which is OK
If they bring more financial wealth to the bush tteam and their friends, it's OK - if they can't make anything worthwhile then it's bad...You can even have good turn bad as with teh former leader of Iraq, or even the former leader of Panama.

7. The United States of The World had declared that...
India can have nuclear power. We have also declared that
Iran may not. Empirical King Bush has spoken!!!!!!

Now bow down and kiss his ring and back away with your eyes diverted.

11. How true. The glaring inconsistency is
amazing. Bush had better not open his big mouth too much about this, because people are going to start putting 2 + 2 together and come out with 3.

Stupid clown.

And of course, this incident smacked India in the face about 2 weeks ago, when the US ambassador was embroiled in controversy. He publicly announced that "India's nuclear deal would get killed in Congress". This caused an uproar, with India wanting to throw him out. Then, it was common knowledge to the rest of the world that the U.S. makes hypocritical deals all over the world.

Watch out, India.

Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh says India wants to strengthen its ties with Iran.
Mr Singh told parliament that India's support for a resolution reporting Iran to the UN Security Council did not detract from its close relations.

He also said India remained committed to building a pipeline to carry Iranian gas across Pakistan.

Mr Singh's Communist allies have criticised him for voting against Iran at the UN nuclear agency, the IAEA

The government's Communist allies, whose support is essential for its survival, have accused it of coming under American pressure to vote against Iran at the IAEA.

snip...

Mr Singh also recommitted his government to building a gas pipeline through Pakistan to Iran - a seven billion dollar project fiercely opposed by Washington.
