Colombia Activist Flays US Rice
Condi Rice is as popular in Latin America as the Taliban is with the National Organization for Women!

Colombia Activist Flays US Rice

Piedad Cordoba

Bogota, Feb 19 (Prensa Latina) Colombian civil right advocate Piedad Cordoba urged US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice to leave Latin American nations in peace because they are not willing to return to the colonial period.

"We are not willing to become an Iraq, much less to return to the period of the colony," Cordoba said about Rice´s request for supporting a strike against Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez.

She assured that Latin America was ready to strengthen a great bloc for regional development and against the US-proposed alternative of poverty and plunder.

"They are (US) so shameless. They have done nothing but exploiting us and causing poverty; now they want us to join them against the only serious proposal of unity for progress," the civil right activist pointed out.

Cordoba said the US was more afraid of a developed and industrialized Latin America, with high levels of living conditions and capacity to compete with them, than of Chavez.

1. Why is it so hard for America to be a power of good instead of evil?
I guess we probably need to elect politicians that care about people over profits before this is possible.

Right now, we have a government that hates it's own citizens. How can we expect them to care about people that are poorer than we are?

13. The invasion by Columbus started the evil and it has continued ever since.
Our "prosperity" is founded in genocide and plunder and being so rooted, has great difficulty in rising above its roots.

18. People just don't get that-
America's never been some "shining city on the hill."

All those enlightenment ideas were great- and held a lot of promise- especially at key times in history- but the bottom line is that America was built on slavery, genocide and abuse of immigrant populations. It's been a regional- and later an international hedgemon since at least the 1840's.

Our abuse of Latin America has been worse in many ways than the Soviet occupation of Eastern Europe- and a lot longer lived.

With the rise of the corporate demons- well, let's just say that there was a lot of irony in Reagan "Evil Empire" proclamation...

19. Howard Zinn's Peoples history of America does a pretty good job
of revealing the evil underbelly of the US empire.
Reagan's calling the soviet's the evil empire and Bush's axis of evil declarations are so Orwellian. It's a lot like the clear skies and healthy forests initiatives: total bogus lies meant to disguise corporate takeover ... which has also been behind most of our wars of aggression.

would mean no more cheap labor and products for the usa. it`s a shame that the leadership of this country can`t grow up and play ball with the big boys and girls...we could cooperate with these countries but that would`t be the american way, now would it?

can`t wait till tomorrow on the spainish language news shows-i just wish i could understand what they are saying.

4. She's right!
I think that Condi is the world's greatest terrorist...not Osama. I fear if she ever got into the oval office that we'd have WW3 in no time. She is as insane as Adolf Hitler was.

5. AWESOME.
Let's hope she and Chavez and others can keep the U.S. from destroying Latin America they way they are destroying Iraq and Afghanistan.

Condi Rice is a whore, in the truest sense of the word. She will do anything for Bush's favors.

11. This is the first recent news I've heard of Columbia. I've been following
developments in Venezuela, Brazil, Argentina, Chile, Uruguay and Bolivia, where a profound leftist revolution is in progress via TRANSPARENT elections. (Transparent elections = good, leftist government--always.*) Peru is likely to be next--after Bolivia elected the first indigenous president, Evo Morales. I've been wondering about Columbia. I'd like to find out more about Piedad Cordoba and the Columbian political situation.

It also looks like Mexico will elect the leftist mayor of Mexico City as President (Andres Manuel Lopez Obrado). The revolution is moving north! Yes! Yes!

*(A lesson we should heed.)

21. Call me a deluded optimist, but I see a realignment of
power in Latin America that is snowballing in favor of democracy, human rights and human dignity and it is directly related to the CIA losing control. The bullshit promises of democratizing the region while in actuality ripping it off will be listened to no more. :bounce:
