Local Marine Killed in Iraq
February 20, 2006

NewsChannel 19's Amber Stuart reports:

Matthew Conley was born and raised in Lauderdale county. Saturday, he was killed by a roadside bomb in Iraq.

His family and school leaders are remembering him as a hero.

21-year-old Corporal Matt Conley was a little more than a week from his 22nd Birthday. He was due to come home from Iraq for good in two weeks.

"We were gonna have a welcome home party and birthday," said Tommy Conley, Matt's father.

Corp. Matt Conley was a squad leader for the 37th Weaponry Division of the U.S. Marine Corps. He had been stationed in Ramadi since last September.

4. I am so sorry
about your son, and all the other sons and daughters sacrificed to this madness. Bush and his cronies have much to answer for. Like you, I just wish we could somehow make this end. My heart goes out to you, and to all the others who have endured losses caused by these criminals.

2. RIP.
RIP. I often find it hard to believe/comprehend/imagine (i think that is the best way to say it) what they are going through out there; like thinking and all that. Im 21 myself and I couldnt imagine myself being in such a situation like they find themselves in over there, fighting for nothing.
