Rudy Plans Race for Albany

RUDY Giuliani has told close friends he's decided to run for governor in 2006, sources say, and he's started making appearances around the state to solidify his support among the Republican Party faithful.

The former mayor is planning to host a fund-raiser for Dan Donovan, the former chief of staff for Staten Island Borough President Guy Molinari, who is running for Staten Island district attorney.

Giuliani's spokeswoman, Sunny Mindel, said, "Right now Rudy Giuliani has no political plans. As he has stated on numerous occasions, he remains dedicated and committed to the ongoing success of Giuliani Partners."

The likeliest Democratic candidate is state Attorney General Eliot Spitzer. But Andrew Cuomo might take another stab at the job, and Sen. Chuck Schumer is said to be eyeing a run for governor - but only if Giuliani stays out of the race.
