Bush Favors Redistricting Changes - Just Not Here
By MICHAEL FECHTER
mfechter@tampatrib.com

Gov. Jeb Bush helped raise money to make elections more competitive in California, but derided as "Secret Squirrel liberals" those who are pushing the same goal in Florida.

Asked this week to explain what makes California different, a Bush spokesman replied, "They have had general elections where not one single incumbent has been defeated."

Yet that's also the state of affairs in Florida, where no officeholder was turned out during the last state and congressional elections, in 2004.

4. Don't know if you caught the bottom of the article
but it explains "Secret Squirrel". I didn't realize that there was a Mel Blanc cartoon voice that I hadn't heard! Heehee!

6. Oh, I remember Secret Squirrel...
One of the absolutely funniest cartoons I've ever seen is when made some voodoo dolls of his boss and Secret Squirrel himself. I just about died from laughing too hard to breathe.

I'm just not sure what the hell Jebby was trying to say.

5. from the article-Dossier: Secret Squirrel
DOSSIER: SECRET SQUIRREL

Gov. Jeb Bush used the term "Secret Squirrel liberals" in criticizing backers of a campaign to change how political boundaries are drawn in Florida. So who is Secret Squirrel? A Saturday morning cartoon that ran when Bush was 12. His office would not say whether he watched it.

ON THE AIR: Saturday mornings, 1965-67; revived by TBS in 1993

CODE NAME: Agent 000

BUMBLING SIDEKICK: Morocco Mole

NEMESIS: Yellow Pinkie (like Gold-finger, get it?)

VOICE: Mel Blanc

BACKGROUND: At the height of the Cold War, Hollywood cartoonists chronicled a dashing spy in his continuing quest to fight evil.

THEME SONG LYRICS:

He's got tricks, up his sleeve, Most bad guys, won't believe.

A bulletproof coat, a cannon hat, A machine gun cane with a rat tat tat tat tat

and every day that goes by is one day less that he will be in office.

9. Jeb repeals "goose and gander" principle by executive fiat
Apparently, what's good for the goose is no longer good for the gander, at least when Jeb Bush is on the case. He'll meddle in all sorts of redistricting legerdemain in other states, but if Florida citizens (and for the moment, Democrats in Florida are still citizens) try to reform the crooked politics of their own state, Jebby's right there to denounce them and call them obscure cartoon names.

Dickhead.

10. Oooh! Name calling! I say we retaliate by calling them
Bullwinkle Republicans

Yeah, the Republican party's come a long way... from Bull Moose to Bullwinkle.

(For those who don't remember the classics, Bullwinkle was the dumb, incompetent one. The squirrel (Rocky, in this case) was always saving his big hairy butt.)

15. My problems with his "make elections more competitive in California"
1) In the last statewide election, every incumbent won - OF BOTH PARTIES.

2) Why the #@%$ is the Governor of Florida raising money for OUR elections?
