US leader crashed by trying to 'pedal, wave and speak at same time'

MURDO MACLEOD POLITICAL CORRESPONDENT

HE MAY be the most powerful man in the world, but proof has emerged that President George Bush cannot ride a bike, wave and speak at the same time.

Scotland on Sunday has obtained remarkable details of one of the most memorably bizarre episodes of the Bush presidency: the day he crashed into a Scottish police constable while cycling in the grounds of Gleneagles Hotel.

/snip/

"Jim McDermott, a Democrat Congressman, last night quipped: "Not only does he break the law over here on eavesdropping and spying on our own citizens, but it seems he can't even keep to your law when it comes to riding a bike. It's another example of how he can't keep his mind on the things he should be thinking about."

/snip/

"I have had clients who have been charged with assaulting a police officer for less than this. The issue of how long the police officer was out of action for is also important. He was away from work for 14 weeks, and that would normally be very significant in a case like this."

Junior can't even go ride a bike in another country without hurting sumone? - sheesh

And that's ur "leader"??

1. 14 WEEKS! My God, what the heck did Shrub do to him?
Geesh, the SS is going to have to keep this nut off that damn bike while he's traveling. He can ride the damn thing on his ranch. There, I don't think he can hurt anyone buy himself!

22. A broken ankle could take 14 weeks or more to heal.
When this article first came out, I had no idea the cop was hurt so badly.

23. When the news first came out, it really didn't make much impact
at all, just jokes about Bush's bike riding skills. You're right about healing time, however. A couple of years ago I fell and cracked an ankle bone and it was about 2 months before I could walk without crutches or an orthopedic boot. If I'd had a job that required me to be on my feet a lot, I would have been off work for quite a while longer than that.

30. I wonder if that same accident happened today, whether Bush would
have as much success hushing the information.

'...At hospital, a doctor examined the constable and diagnosed damage to his ankle ligaments and issued him with crutches. The cause was officially recorded as: "Hit by moving/falling object."...'

8. That 14 weeks was probably only 1 weeks recovery,
.
.
.

And it took them another 13 weeks to convince him from taking his story to the press?

That would require some special ICU time methinks - -

Just "monitoring his progress" ya know . . .

Shame on me

I shouldn't be so suspicious of the Admin's motives . .

right?

"Minor abrasions", blahblahblah.

This one only took about 6 1/2 months to come out.

Send it to KO and Stewart.

"Look, Ma, one hand!"

4. At least he showed SOME feeling. This quote makes Cheney look
...even MORE inhumane:

"The injured officer, who was not named, was whisked to Perth Royal Infirmary. The report adds: "While en-route President Bush phoned , enquiring after his wellbeing and apologising for the accident."

14. Best line in the article...
"Instead, he ended up the subject of a police report in which the leader of the free world was described, in classic police language, as a 'moving/falling object'."

But here's the original CNN article and I don't see too many "new details" other than the opinions. Not that it's not still a funny story.

17. "new details" - the guy pretzeldent hit was off work for 3 months
.
.
.

and Bush would have been charged if he was a "regular" person

Those are pretty important "details" to have been omitted

so it's just not "opinions" there

Bush INJURED someone while breaking local laws -

But breaking other nations' laws seems to be a norm for the USA lately

35. The Press Passes On Another Bush Tumble
The Press Passes On Another Bush Tumble
Submitted by editor4 on February 27, 2006 - 3:52pm.
By Eric Boehlert
Source: Huffington Post

Not sure which was funnier, the lead from the Sunday Scotsman article regarding new details about Bush's bicycling mishap last summer in Scotland where he was attending the G8 summit ("proof has emerged that President George Bush cannot ride a bike, wave and speak at the same time"), or the Scotsman's naive belief that the embarrassing revelations might cause Bush some discomfort inside the Beltway.

Naive because anyone who has watched the MSM for the last five years knows the American press has little interest in embarrassing the president on a personal level and steadfastly refuses to push the obvious narrative of Bush as a physical bumbler, a sort of modern day Gerald Ford. That's why the Scotsman's details from the until-now unpublished police report about Bush plowing his mountain bike into a poor, unsuspected constable, doing serious damage to the officer's ankle and forcing him to miss nearly four months of work, has been quietly boycotted by the U.S. press corps.

The Scotsman's scoop has been picked up by press outlets in Europe and Australia, and it's all over the internet, but the MSM institutions in the U.S.--all of them--have dubbed the episode to be off-limits for American news consumers: ABC, CBS, NBC, CNN, Fox News, MSNBC, NPR, New York Times, Washington Post, Los Angeles Times, USA Today, Chicago Tribune, Associated Press, UPI, and on and on the list goes.

Obviously the bike story doesn't qualify as big news or require extensive write-ups and lots of TV time. But by refusing to acknowledge the news item even exists, the press highlights its odd urge to play nice with Bush.
