CNN: Despite polls, Bush says he has 'capital' (WTF???)
http://www.cnn.com/2006/POLITICS/02/28/bush.interview/

(CNN) -- President Bush said in a Tuesday interview that he wasn't concerned about his low approval ratings, and he discussed how he told Vice President Dick Cheney, who was shaken by his hunting accident earlier this month, to "share it with the American people."

"If I worried about polls, I wouldn't be doing my job," Bush told ABC's Elizabeth Vargas in the interview, which aired on "World News Tonight."

The president's approval rating dropped to 34 percent in a CBS News poll released Monday. CNN/USA Today/Gallup polls taken since October have put his approval ratings in the high 30s to mid-40s.

"I fully understand that when you do hard things, it creates consternation at times," Bush said. "I've been up in the polls, and I've been down in the polls -- it's just part of life in the modern era. I think the American people -- I know the American people want somebody to stand on principle, make decisions and stand by them and lead this world toward a more peaceful tomorrow, and I strongly believe we're doing that. And I enjoy it. It's a fantastic opportunity."

He also said he feels he has "ample capital" despite his sagging polls.

Can this sack of shit become more out of touch???

1. Question is, Does he know what having "ample capital" means?
I mean, did he check his word of the day calendar?

Maybe "ampule capital"?

Or "ammo capital"? That'd go well with the whole "popular wartime president" shtick he'd surely like to revisit.

50. He will indeed be plenty worried when it means he can't arm-twist
as many people on the Hill anymore with those fabulous poll numbers and all that "political capital" at his disposal these days. Or when he sends kkkarl out to threaten republi-CONs hoping for reelection that they won't get any White House help if they don't do as they're told. That's gonna go over better and better with the GOP incumbents - MORE OF WHOM are now seeing their necks securely on the block.

Go ahead, george. Spend that "political capital" for all you're worth! See george spend. Spend, george, spend! And see how little buys him, anymore. Inflation's a bitch, isn't it, george?

"Ample capital" means the GOP majorities have given him a whole bookful of blank checks and as long as he allows them to flood their districts/states with pork barrel projects, they will allow him to continue cutting taxes for the uber rich and waste more hundreds of billions on his obscene, blood-soaked foreign adventures.

19. from the Houston Chronicle
http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/nation/3692292.html

Bush's approval rating is far below those of three of the last four two-term presidents in February of their sixth year:

• Dwight Eisenhower (64 percent);
• Ronald Reagan (63.50 percent); and
• Bill Clinton (57 percent).
Only Nixon, at 27.5 percent in February 1974 — six months before he resigned — was less popular than Bush is now.

18. Depends on the definition of "capital."
Here are a few which might apply, courtesy of www.thefreedictionary.com:

___________________

cap·i·tal

2.
a. Wealth in the form of money or property, used or accumulated in a business by a person, partnership, or corporation.
b. Material wealth used or available for use in the production of more wealth.
c. Human resources considered in terms of their contributions to an economy: " swift unveiling of his . . . plans provoked a flight of human capital" George F. Will.

4. Capital stock.

5. Capitalists considered as a group or class.

6. An asset or advantage: "profited from political capital accumulated by others" Michael Mandelbaum.

Usage Note: The term for a town or city that serves as a seat of government is spelled capital. The term for the building in which a legislative assembly meets is spelled capitol.

or perhaps obstinate and ignorant - of course it may be just plain delusional - wonder if he is still hearing the divine voices he used to give credit to for his poor decisions, his "higher" father sent him on a mission and they didn't even call in the "Blues Brothers". If it were not so sad that many people in the world have been hurt by his poor decisions, we could laugh at his stupidity all day.

37. Did he really say "I enjoy it" and
and that being President is "a fantastic opportunity." Really think about that. When I hear him on the news, I am always sidetracked by that terribly idiotic manner of his, so I don't really hear what he is saying ( which is a good thing, I think). When I actually read - slowly read - what he is saying, I am utterly amazed. WTF does "it's just part of life in the modern era" mean? He sounds like he has just been hired to sell vacuum cleaners at a Wal-Mart after flunking out of some unaccredited technical school. Does someone actually get paid to write this stuff for him or is he talking off the top of what passes for a mind?

38. I'm sorry, but I think he may be right...
I think Wrong DOES have ample political capital with the one and only group he gives a shit about - his core backers.

Remember, he thinks in pure black & white terms and * has stated on multiple occasions we're either with him or against him, and if we're against him, we're terrorists or supporters of terrorists (which are effectively the same thing to him). He's out to extirminate terrorists, so he doesn't care what those who oppose him think because they're terrorists. He only cares what those who support him think, and they support him and think just like him.

Personally, I think he's convinced himself that he's the second coming and that those who don't follow him are bound for hell.

61. I've also heard Bush say "The polls go up and down"
but the reality is that Bush is only going down.

And not only in the way that Jeff Gannon enjoys.

63. Yes, negative capital. Assets minus liabilities equals capital
in strictly financial sense. It is the ownership interest in a business.

Now if your liabilities, ie debts both long and short term, exceed your assets both long and short term, then you have negative Capital.

Capital is usually composed of 2 kinds:

1)Invested capital, ie money invested by sole proprietors or Common stock for corporations

and

2)Retained earnings, the accummulated earnings of the business retained in the business.

Dividends to stockholders decrease retained earnings. Sole proprietors can draw down retained earnings or withdraw some of their initial investment.

Okay, so I'm a CPA in one of my lives.

Now chimpie has been borrowing the heck out of the rest of the world, has been running enormous deficits, and so only has negative capital.

Speaking more figuratively he is even more devoid of positive capital.

He only ever had any right after Sept 11, but then proceeded to squander that.

I heard a CNN correspondent say it was embarrassing that in the US 6 months after Katrina so many people have nowhere to go.

66. He NEVER had it
To my dying day I will believe that the majority of the decent Americans did all they could to vote for Kerry and that if they were allowed to vote or all their votes were actually counted, there is no way Bush was elected. None. Zero. Zip. I felt that way on 11/2/2004 and I've seen nothing to change my mind. And the only capital this asshole as ever had is thievery and lies. Every goddman day another lie.

68. "If I worried about polls, I wouldn't be doing my job,"
Someone should run a poll asking if they feel the President is doing his job.

70. The ports deal is his Last Stand - lame duck status is official
Bush is so far out there on Portsgate that I think this is the last deal that he has to make. His Last Stand for UAE, Pappa Bush and The Carlyle Group.

80. Same things basically.
He's basically saying he has the support of the people when the polls prove that he doesn't. That's the same thing as having only 50 bucks in the bank and you tell yourself you still have enough money to pay your rent.
