DeLay team canvasses for clues in Dist. 22
Campaign crew is using finely tuned technology typically seen in national races

Prosecutors have asked a travel agency to turn over records on a trip Tom DeLay took with Jack Abramoff. PAGE B7
Those campaign block-walkers have eagle eyes and sharp ears. Got an Aggie flag in your yard or a Jesus fish stuck on your car? Duly noted. Mention that your son is in the Navy? Got it.

Such are the snippets of data that Rep. Tom DeLay, R-Sugar Land, has gleaned as his campaign has labored for months to target existing and potential supporters. They're working house by house across the 22nd Congressional District in advance of Tuesday's four-way GOP primary.

The nuts-and-bolts information gathered during those house calls — whether constituents back DeLay, if they want a yard sign or bumper sticker, and if they'd like to get more information from the campaign — is gold to the DeLay team.

For DeLay, a 22-year incumbent who is fighting for another term, the intelligence is critical to his goal of wringing as large a margin as he can out of a primary contest that may wind up being closer than he would prefer.

Here's a clue for them:

1. sounds as though he is desperate
he hasn't had to do much in the way of real campaigning in years.

I hope the Repubs have had enough of him, and will vote him out.

2. Nah, I'd rather he be on the ballot in November
as we'd have a much better chance of picking up that seat. If Delay loses the primary, that seat goes firmly back into the GOP column.

3. Is that the kind of tech "typically seen in national races"?
Looking for Jesus fish and travel records?

5. The "Free Enterprise Committee" has been running pro-Delay ads...
On Houston TV. The first one revealed George Soros as the Liberal moneybags financing the campaign against DeLay. By the time all the weird ideas of George Soros had been revealed, I was wishing I could vote for him:

www.freeenterprisecommittee.org/

The linked news stories tell more about who's paying for the ads.

The "Popup Liberals" ad appeared today. A veritable rogue's gallery of both Clintons, Kerry, Gore, Moore, etc. popped up as examples of the evil liberals who don't like DeLay.

All this--just before the Primary.

8. This is retail -- and expensive -- politics
DeLay's not going to have the time or the money to support Republican candidates in trouble in other districts. If DeLay's tactics are successful, and the people of Texas' 22nd District are stupid enough to return DeLay to Congress, DeLay will be a much lonelier man in his caucus.

10. What the Hell does having a son in the Navy have to do with Delay
I'm a 22 year Navy Veteran, and I wouldn't vote for this POS at gun-point. Am I supposed to feel honored that Tommy thinks I'm doing great work in defending my country?

Isn't this the same guy that couldn't serve in Vietnam because "all the minorities had taken all the good spots"??

This crap of the Repukes having a "lock" on the military vote has got to be challenged and defeated at every possible opportunity. This crap that the Repukes have a "lock" on the military vote is all an attempt to give Republicans a "Brand Name". "See, the troops support Republicans, therefore Republicans "must" have the best interest of the troops at heart".

I'm pissed that they try to associate themselves with the mostly brave and honorable people that are serving this country.

Delay is the kind of guy, that if you met him in person, you'd feel the urgent need to take a shower.

Want to support me Tommy? Get that disgusting, pimple assed, drug addict Rush Limbaugh off Armed Forces Radio.
