E-mails undermine Reed claim (Ralph's political career closer to ending?)

Hopefully good news for us in Georgia, and possibly the country since the little tool has Presidential aspirations.

Ralph Reed has said he didn't know it until last year, but emails suggest he was informed that eLot — a firm then in the online lottery business — was behind his effort to fend off a ban against internet gambling in 2000.

The e-mails passed between Reed and Jack Abramoff, the now disgraced Washington lobbyist. Abramoff was lobbying for eLot Inc. of Connecticut, parent company of eLottery Inc., against a bill in Congress that would have banned most online betting. ELottery opposed the bill because it wanted to help states sell tickets online.

Reed, a lifelong opponent of gambling, said last year that he did not know in 2000 he was actually working on behalf of eLottery.

But e-mails obtained by The Atlanta Journal-Constitution show Reed was offered the name of the company at the beginning of his involvement in the campaign, in May 2000. The e-mails emerged as dozens of federal investigators have increased their focus on events surrounding the defeat of the Internet gaming ban.

Abramoff included the company's name — referring to "the elot project" — in an e-mail he forwarded to Reed, as the two worked out details of Reed's contract for the campaign.

I don't care if he wants to work against gambling. That's his choice. But I know, back behind the scenes and under the table, Ralphie has been doing all kind of things he wants to keep hidden from scrutiny. It's the damn dishonesty that really gripes me!

I hope the Abramoff connection sinks Ralphie, and a whole lot of other two faced scam artists!

In Reed's district, just being a "good Xtian" is good enough to clear one of anything short of murder or child molestation. If their church supports him, then they will unquestioningly vote for the scumbag. Southern Xtian fundies are no better than lemmings.

this little weasel since the early 90's. He was propped up as some kind of saintly creature by the likes of wretched Robertson, Falwell etc. despicable in their on right. I have been lying in wait of him getting his just dues.

The sooner this blight on the state of Georgia is in prison the better.

from the beginning of his career. When he set up the "Christian Coalition" I knew he was a money grubbing oportunist who saw his chance. But with his choirboy looks he was able to sucker the fundies. Reed's one aim was to build a fortune and gain more power.Robertson and his ilk loved Ralphies ability to bring in more $$$ for them.

He has always prided himself as a "behind-the-scenes" operative and when a camera is present the Tom DeLay-type smile is automatic. I pray that his political "career" is over. If anyone deserved to be dethroned, it's him!!!

Say you're a Republican faced with legal troubles because you did something kooky, like, oh..I don't know....sell arms to Iranian terrorists in exchange for handsome profits that you then funnelled to an illegal war in Central America (where DO I come up with this stuff??). Well, you can just tell people:

"I just didn't know."

he's not going anywhere. It would have to be a mighty big bus bearing down on the GOP for the party insiders to think about tossing Reed underneath it. He's too well connected and too talented as a political knife-man to let anything like ethical problems or crime stop his ascent.

We'll be seeing Ralphy boy for many years to come. Let's all hope I'm wrong on this one.

Reminds me of that dismissive, diminishing statement bush made to some handsome Canadian government official, first-named Scott (to distinguish him from bush's own little pet Scott) - "you got a pretty face." Yep. Some big bubba in prison is going to be saying much the same thing to dear darling little ralphie. It would be fitting punishment for the lying, sneaking, cheating, underhanded, backstabbing, conniving, scheming shit he's been up to for - what - a couple of decades now?

We had a guy out here in California who reminds me of li'l ralphie: mike curb (he of the Mike Curb Congregation - big-ass "Up With People"-style choral group). He was a record industry type with delusions of grandeur and greater success in politics. He got as high as lieutenant governor under Jerry Brown, but went no higher (thank GOD!). Once he arrived on that stage, he made consistent blunders enough to reveal his Dark-Sider agenda, and his political aspirations got short-circuited. He had one of those pretty-faced clean-cut choir-boy type looks, too.

I hope this man has a Bible in prison. Maybe he'll read it and actually understand what it says, instead of using it to beat on people, or enrich his financial position.

One of the prime tenets of being a Christian is to be (paraphrased) as wise as a serpent and gentle as a dove. He seems to have the serpent part down. But there is no way you will ever convince me that this guy really believes the ideals he purports to espouse, or he would never, ever, ever be caught in cahoots with someone like Jack Abramoff. Or any of his ilk.
