Hamas Rejects Support of al-Zawahri
Hamas Rejects Support of al-Zawahri

CAIRO, Egypt, Mar. 5, 2006
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

(AP)

(AP) Hamas officials shrugged off the support offered by al-Qaida's No. 2 leader, saying Sunday the Palestinian militant group has a different ideology than the terror network and won election through a moderate approach to Islam.

In a video aired Saturday by Al-Jazeera, Ayman al-Zawahri called for jihad, or holy war, to reclaim Palestinian lands and implied al-Qaida's support for Hamas' refusal to recognize Israel despite international pressure since the militant Islamic group swept parliamentary elections in January.

A Hamas official in Gaza, speaking on condition of anonymity because the movement did not want to formally respond to al-Zawahri's support, said: "Hamas believes that Islam is completely different to the ideology of Mr. al-Zawahri."

"Our battle is against the Israeli occupation and our only concern is to restore our rights and serve our people. We have no links with any group or element outside Palestine," the official said.

1. careful -- we don't want anyone to think that hamas is anything
but a terrorist organization -- and not the legitimately elected representatives of the palestinian people.

4. More like Bush is impotent to keep Pooty-Poot out of it now.
Talk about shooting your dick off while hunting quail, Bush can't even aim as good as Cheney when he's drunk. Come to think of it, I'll bet Cheney's behind our clumsy and delusional foreign policy disasters too, I keep forgetting Bush is just a puppet.

25. Bush Puppet
Edited on Mon Mar-06-06 03:32 PM by saigon68

Bush is simply an empty vessel, a hollow shell, a person of weak character and limited life experience who is therefore highly susceptible to the control of a small, determined group of ideological hard-liners bent on asserting U.S. power more forcefully in the world.

8. Funny too how most Americans never ever mention the good work
that Hamas does in many areas.

Oh wait, that's like mentioning all the good Saddam Hussein did; if ya mention that, ya must be a Saddam loyalist.

Must only demonize, must never look at all sides of any issue. Dammit I always forget that!

10. Yep exactly. Like we should focus ONLY on America's genociding
of hundreds of thousands, and ignore any & all good works! EXACTLY right!

NEVER EVER look at all sides of any issue if you're an American; it just ain't the American way!

RAH! RAH! RAH!

:eyes:

And ya wonder why the world hates us???

11. Hamas was initially a "political" group, turned militant by Israeli
incursions into Palestinian territories and atrocities against Palestinians. How can anyone blame the occupied for raising a militia to protect its people and to respond to terror against it people? Of course, the origins and history of Hamas will never be truthfully told by the oppressors of the Palestinian people.

Israel supported Hamas as a rival to the PLO at one point.

You didn't know?

beginning. Sheikh Yassin was always more into the Islam cause than the Palestinian, nationalist cause. First Islam, then Palestine. In my opinion, that's why Israel funded it in the beginning. Religious cause headed by theocracies are lost in advance (or will have a hard time making viable diplomatic, economic links with other nations), while nationalist cause can be more challenging -- which Israel didn't want.

16. What's really interesting...
is what the f*ck is that thing in/on the center of his forehead in that picture?!

And why doesn't that man make use of the Al-Qaida dental insurance plan? Or maybe due to decreases in revenue Al-Qaida doesn't have one, or had to cut back on the insurance plan and other benefits.

These are the real questions that need to be asked and answered.

I like how al-Qaeda mostly works in favor if it's supposed enemy. Of course, Hamas accepting support of Zawahiri wouldn't have played exactly into Israel/USA's hand, right ? :sarcasm:

22. Something this important ought to have more recommendations on DU
This is one of the most important news breaks this year yet the MSM is having little to say about it and DU also. I find that amazing. Especially when we all know if Hamas and Al-Zawahri had "struck a deal" it would be breaking news 24/7 on FOX, CNN, and MSNBC, and Rush and Hannity would be having a field day. We say here that we want peace and justice in the ME...but who are most DUers? It's making my head swim. So sad.
