Cuban medical team services lauded (Pakistan)

ISLAMABAD, March 10: After working in adverse weather conditions for five months in the remotest areas of Azad Kashmir and the NWFP devastated by the October 8 earthquake, the Cuban Medical Brigade has taken the decision to leave.

The first group of Cuban professionals arrived in Pakistan on October 14. Today they are present in earthquake-hit Muzaffarabad, Rawalakot and Bagh.

As many as 2,386 doctors, paramedics and back-up staff between the ages of 19 and 71 have focussed day and night on relief.

the the US military operated a MASH hospital as part of our disaster relief - when we left last month we turned the entire thing over to the Pakistan government. We had a huge relief effort there.

Can do it without also securing a military dictatorship there at the same time.

The Cuban effort was outstanding and should be lauded but there is nothing here to criticize the US for.

The Henry Reeve medical brigade was the largest foreign medical relief unit there.

I disagreed with your comment about the US being too late with too little.

I think both countries have much to be proud of.

Just for the record.

Any help given should be respected, but, considering the availability of heavy lifting capability and vast resources of the US (not to mention the doubleplusgood diplomatic relations that the US & Pakistan have) compared to the size of Cuba and its economy as well as the lack of even a Cuban embassy in Pakistan, I stand by my comment.


USA* stands for brigades with bombs and war.

Cuba stands for brigades of doctors and teachers.
