National Guard pay delayed, denied
http://www.msnbc.com/news/992826.asp?0cv=CA01

WASHINGTON, Nov. 12 — Soldiers with the National Guard are already under the gun in Iraq and Afghanistan. But now a new government report claims that while the troops are fighting far from home, red tape is preventing many of them from being paid.

WHILE NATIONAL Guard soldiers fulfill their duty, risking their lives around the world, the Pentagon apparently is not living up to its obligation to pay them the right amount or on time. That’s according to a new congressional report obtained by NBC News, which finds the Pentagon’s pay process is such a mess it’s having “a profound financial impact on individual soldiers and their families.”

“This is well beyond anything I could ever imagine,” said Rep. Christopher Shays, R-Conn., “I would like to think if we send people off to war that we’re not going to have them worry about whether their home is going to be taken because they can’t pay their mortgage.”

8. If you knew anything about politics, you'd know that Shays...
Edited on Wed Nov-12-03 10:07 PM by Media_Lies_Daily
...is a moderate Republican. There was even talk a couple of years ago that he was seriously thinking about joining the Democratic Party. This is from his website in Congress:

<http://www.house.gov/shays/bio/>

Excerpts:

"Christopher Shays is a leader among moderates in the Republican Party. He advocates fiscally conservative and socially moderate views both in Congress and on the national stage...".

...snip...

"Serving as the U.S. Chairman of the Global Legislators Organization for a Balanced Environment (GLOBE), Christopher is a nationally recognized environmentalist and has been endorsed by the League of Conservation Voters and the Sierra Club for his strong support of Clean Water and Endangered Species legislation, as well as his aggressive stand in favor of strict new Clean Air regulations. As co-chairman of the Animal Rights Caucus, he continues to be an outspoken advocate for the humane treatment of animals around the world."

My guess is that he doesn't have to hide anything from the voters in Connecticut...he has been serving the people of the 4th District of Connecticut for nearly 30 years.

4. this mal-administration
has guaranteed that they lose the military votes in the next election - but I guess that they will make certain that those "late" votes are not counted next time.

5. They must have outsourced the payroll to KBR
If you hold ALL that money for 30 to 45 days you get to use a few million tax free - heck, even in interest payments it a decent chunk. Hold the first check up, just get a month behind and you have several mill to play with. shameful - and don't forget, the unelected VP gets a nice check from the parent company each year so it will never be investigated...

9. Pay and benefits cut off for wounded soldiers in the hospital
This is SO dirty. They might not even know what is going on because , I don't know, they might be busy trying to live through the day. This is something that an insurance company does to people they are screwing over with.

Oh that's right. The insurance corportions give to Republicans.
