U.S. Troops Kill Iraqi Municipal Leader in Baghdad
Democracy Now (Pacifica news service) says,
"In Baghdad, U.S. soldiers have shot dead a member of the U.S.-appointed local Iraqi council in Sadr City. The council leader, Muhammed Kaabi, was killed while he was approaching the council offices Sunday. The U.S. claims he attempted to take a weapon from a soldier when the troops stopped him and asked to search his car. Local residents said he never attempted to grab a weapon. One city hall employee said, "It was killing for the sake of killing. It was not self-defense." Also in Iraq, U.S. forces have detained 20 men who are being questioned about possible ties to Al Qaeda. "

3. Did US soldiers kill him because he was brown?
Why are our troops killing innocent brown people? Is it hate or something else?

5. Because it is turning into another VietNam
where life was so cheap, people got popped for silly shit all the time. Don't like the cab driver? Blow his brains out. Don't want to pay a hooker? Kill her.
All that and more.

The troops know what is going on. They know about the people getting offed in dribs and drabs and the stress of wondering if and when you are going to get it that way is worse than "combat" whatever that means these days.

There is nothing worse that realizing that the hundreds of people you can see on a street can hide any number of bad guys armed to the teeth and your next breath can be your last.

It sucks, let me tell you from first-hand experience. I was always much happier on small-unit raids or full-blown regiment stuff than I was walking the streets on patrol.

9. Then why don't we demand to get out now!
All I hear is excuses as to why not and no resounding cry to pack it in.

Attacks at many different places at once.

It's not on the same magnitude, but I think the strategy is the same.

16. wait a minute -- this isn't the mayor that was shot?
or the governing council member that they mistakenly shot at yesterday?
Or the brother of the governing council member who was shot?
This is a *new* governing member that was shot?

Really, this is becoming almost farcical (or it would be if it wasn't so pathetic)
