Bolton: U.N. Security Council Faces 'Real Test'

WASHINGTON — The United States is not ruling out using force to prevent Iran from gaining nuclear weapons even as the U.N. Security Council is preparing to take up the Iranian nuclear problem this week, U.S. ambassador to the United Nations John Bolton told FOX News Talk's Tony Snow on Monday.

"The use of force is certainly an option that's out there," Bolton said in an interview that came on the heels of Iran's rejection of a deal with Russia designed to avoid U.N. sanctions and satisfy international concerns over Iran's march toward a nuclear weapons program.

"When you see the risk of a government led by a president like Ahmadinejad, a man who has denied the existence of the Holocaust, who has said Israel ought to be wiped off the map — imagining somebody like that with his finger on a nuclear button means that you can't take any option off the table if you believe, as President Bush does, that it's unacceptable for Iran to have nuclear weapons."

Over the weekend, Iran rejected a Russian proposal that would have allowed Iran access to nuclear material, but Russia would have maintained control over key processes of uranium enrichment and waste disposal. The action is the latest in recent months of increasing tensions between Iran and its opponents.

1. "Wolf! Wolf! There's a wolf coming!"
Shut up Bolton, you recess-appointment asshole...nobody's gonna believe squat that the US says anymore, until this whole train-wreck of a WH is cleaned out. How dare you presume the UN is dumb enough to believe spin like this again?!?

5. ***PETITION TO SIGN: NO WAR WITH IRAN ***
Hello,

For the past year, the growing tensions mounting between the US, Israel, and Iran are reaching a point where military action against Iran is w/in months of becoming reality. The repercussions are terrifying as such military action could involve countries such as China and Russia as they share massive energy/economic interests w/ Iran. The most likely scenario we would face would be the collapse of the US economy as the combination of a massive rise in oil prices and a run on the US dollar would surely be the weapon many countries would use to fight back against a preemptive US or Israeli strike.

For a collection of articles and resources on this subject you can visit this link: http://reseaudesign.com/research/iran/iran_summery.html

I'm starting up a petition which I will be sending out to as many members of Congress as possible. I'm asking for help to get this signed by as many people, possible in the next month. Send it to as many people you can.

Also, here is another petition you can sign from another group:

Thanks for your time

7. Having Bolton in the same building is a real test
Edited on Mon Mar-13-06 05:23 PM by daleo
I don't know how people in the U.N. can stand it.

On edit - Reagan wasn't talking about the neo-cons, but the quote is apt: "the strangest collection of looney tunes and squalid criminals since the Third Reich".

Bolton even looks like a Looney Toons character (Yosemite Sam). Cheney has mastered the Elmer Fudd repertoire. One of their media mouthpieces is named Tweety.

9. So now we can expect the UN Security Council to...
authorize John Bolton to invade Iran by himself, right? Or maybe they could vote to allow the U.S. to invade Iran on their own (y'know, the old "Knock yurself out" thing), right? I mean, it's not like we're overextended or have a recruiting shortage, or don't have any troops left to deploy who aren't already suffering PTSD and such, right?

(do I even need to add :sarcasm:?)
