Panel Reaches Deal on Access to 9/11 Papers
By PHILIP SHENON
Published: November 13, 2003

WASHINGTON, Nov. 12 — The commission investigating the Sept. 11 attacks said on Wednesday that it had reached agreement with the White House to give the panel access to copies of the daily intelligence briefings sent to President Bush's desk shortly before the attacks.

The accord was reached after months of talks over the reports, known as the President's Daily Brief, which the Central Intelligence Agency presents to Mr. Bush and his senior aides every morning. The bipartisan commission had threatened to subpoena the reports.

"We believe this agreement will prove satisfactory and enable us to get our job done," the panel said in a statement that lacked details on the agreement.

Although panel officials said the pact imposed substantial limits on access, it still appeared to establish a precedent for outside access to some of the most highly classified intelligence reports in the executive branch, a precedent that the White House had not been eager to set.

5. Don't they always.
Where is the connection between the stonewalling of the energy papers, the reagan papers, traitorgate, and the 9/11 documents. Its beyond amazing that they have gotten away with all of this, bet that will ALL change when a Democrat is actually allowed into the WH after being ELECTED.

3. Most deals have concealment as a purpose
...many times it is ancilliary to the primary purpose of limiting damage. In this case the primary purpose is concealment of facts to limit political damage.

"We are not afraid to entrust the American people with unpleasant facts, foreign ideas, alien philosophies, and competitive values. For a nation that is afraid to let its people judge the truth and falsehood in an open market is a nation that is afraid of its people."

6. There should not be a deal
It should be a commission that has access to all papers. Very highly trusted individuals with access to all papers. Personally if I found something damming about 9/11 that they would not allow to be reported or brought to the commission, I would leak in as a matter of national security. The nation needs to be protected from the BFEE, type of national security. If this was Clintons fault then that needs to be reported also. I doubt that it is Clintons fault so I am not to worried about that kind of news.
