SUMMARY: On Wednesday the Human Rights Campaign (HRC) published its questionnaire with Democratic presidential candidate and retired Gen. Wesley Clark (news - web sites).
snip
HRC said on its Web site that its questionnaire represents the first time Clark talked about a range of GLBT issues other than the military.

In the questionnaire Clark wrote that he supported same-sex families. "Same-sex couples," he wrote, "deserve the same federal benefits, rights, privileges and responsibilities as opposite-sex couples." Clark went on to write that he supports the Permanent Partners Immigration Act (PPIA), a bill which would allow a partner in a same-sex couple to immigrate to the United States -- something opposite-sex couples can already do. Clark also indicated he supported the rights of gays and lesbians to adopt.

According to the HRC, Clark publicly signaled support for the first time for the Employment Non-Discrimination Act (ENDA) and the Local Law Enforcement Enhancement Act. ENDA would outlaw job discrimination while the Local Law Enforcement Enhancement Act would add sexual orientation to the 1968 law which covers hate crimes based on race, religion and national origin.

On HIV (news - web sites)/AIDS (news - web sites) issues, Clark indicated he would: help low-income Americans get better access to treatment by supporting the Early Treatment for HIV Act (ETHA); support those living with the disease by increasing funding for the Ryan White CARE Act; and, ensure prevention methods are comprehensive, age-appropriate and based on scientific methods.

1. Good Man and a Pragmatist
to boot. He realizes its within the spirit of the country to provide protection for these people. Good Job, Wes!

BTW, with as smart as this guy is, I think this is very astute politically, getting this issue out in the open long before the primaries.

Now we can sit back and watch the GOP froth at the mouth

:)

I respect Clark for speaking out about this. We shouldn't be testing the temperature....WE SHOULD BE CRANKING IT UP!!You make it is as if we shouldn't be treating them with the dignity and respect that they deserve.

Based on your reasoning, there would be no such thing as Civil Rights legislation.

8. How on EARTH did you get that from his post?
"Based on your reasoning, there would be no such thing as Civil Rights legislation."

The poster you reply to said nothing even remotely suggesting that--he (or she) seems to be in complete agreement with you, so I'm baffled at what, exactly, you're angry about.

5. Gays in the military!
Far more than the Reich wing will admit. Young men and women in a body/fitness-conscious culture? You bet those soldiers are pumping more than iron!

7. I met him recently. Like him more and more
The general has knocked one out of the park for me here.

I was lucky enough to attend a Q&A thing recently.
Spoke with him afterwards.
I'd been concerned that he was dead-behind-the-eyes-freaky-like tom cruiseand john travolta

but no. he was not.
Real eye contact, real handshake which he maintained entire time I spoke with him. We actually spoke and his answers were thoughtful, neither canned. nor "candidate".
