Bush: Iraqis to Get More Responsibility
*sigh* How patronizing can this guy get? He makes it sounds as though he were the parent and the Iraqis the children. It IS their country, after all.

WASHINGTON - Under the pressure of increasing U.S. deaths in battle,
President Bush (news - web sites) said Thursday the United States
wants Iraqis to take more responsibility for governing their troubled
country and said coalition forces are determined to prevail over terrorists.

Bush said he was sending L. Paul Bremer,
the top U.S. administrator in Baghdad, back
to the country to work with Iraqis on
developing a plan to speed up establishment
of an Iraqi government.

1. He wants what
He wants the Iraqis to fix what he broke?

If the U.S leave now just see the chaos that will be unleashed.

Bush has fucked himself.

I just feel sorry for all those who will die because of his lack of vision.

3. This shift deserves a hell of a blast
in the media, because here's how the pieces stack up for me.

First the freaking popinjay says Iraq is his to "democratize" and he'd do it on his own timeline and would not be rushed.

Then things commence going to hell (as he'd been warned they would), so off he goes to the Security Council to seek international assistance finally. We all breathe a sigh of relief. Instead, he strides in and sounds more demanding than requesting, and lets the UN know in no uncertain terms that he won't be rushed in his process of "democratization".

The UN tells him to bugger off, we want a deadline for a constitution and elections. Since Bush is now feeling political pain he comes up with a second draft resolution, grudgingly inserting a Dec. 15th deadline for said constitution and elections.

Fast forward to this week. The security situation is rapidly deteriorating, the CIA admits it if Bush won't. Bush meets with Bremer in Washington and now apparently feels the recalcitrant Iraqis are dragging their feet, slowing down his process of "democratization".

Let's see...his position is
1) "I'm not rushing into this and you can't make me."
2) "I'll do it by 12/15 but only because you're forcing me to."
3) "12/15? Who the hell can wait that long?"

This fool is so out of control it boggles the mind.
I'd heard Bremer wanted to discuss modifications to that seven-step plan for giving the Iraqis their country back. Seems wasteful to fly back for that. Just call the White House and ask if leaving the key under the mat and hauling ass counts as one step or two.

4. love the post, CareerP
that pretty much says it. Well, I'm glad I'm not the only one who's noticed Bush's principles are non-existent. I recall when that fact hit me like a brick on the head; it was sometime after the war.

I remember Bush's angry, repeated remarks about how "we will go it alone if we have to", meaning we didn't need any other countries involved with our "help" in Iraq. He kept repeating it for the next few months.

The situation gradually deteriorated in Iraq. No change. It became more and more apparent that it was not going to work. The reality was that it was spining out of control. The UN and the rest of Europe had stated its position.

Next, I see Bush on TV, his position had completely reversed. Now he says, "the more countries that are involved, the better". And he's looking just as determined and principled as before, and yet he's saying the complete opposite thing.

If there's one thing I've learned from all the hard knocks life is, you've got to stand by your principles. If you don't, you end up being a pile of dog crap on the sidewalk.

5. A correction. I believe aWol was not invited to meeting.
This is important. I see all these posts attributing decisions to aWol. cHenney, rumsfield, wolfowitz are making the decisions. aWol is a front man.

6. Cool. Thanks for the "insider" tip,
NoKing. I was not aware of that. Once again, appearances do have a way of deceiving, don't they?

(I thot he was in charge)
