Bush Demands Up or Down Vote on Judges

http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&u=/ap/senate_talkathon

WASHINGTON - President Bush (news - web sites) delivered a wake-up call to the Senate on Thursday, punctuating an all-night talkathon with a demand for an "up or down" vote on four of his appellate court nominees blocked by Democrats.

Standing in the Oval Office with three women whose nominations have been stalled, Bush launched his broadside as Democrats and Republicans took turns at the microphone during a marathon session organized by majority Republicans to protest Democratic filibusters.

"These people deserve an up or down vote on the Senate floor," Bush told reporters. "And yet a few senators are playing politics and it's wrong and it's shameful. ... I will stand with them to the bitter end."

Senate Judiciary Chairman Orrin Hatch, R-Utah, almost talked himself out of a voice. After speaking at several different events Wednesday and talking several times during the floor debate, Hatch's voice was reduced to a croak. "I apologize for my voice," he said sheepishly in the wee hours of the morning.

"Thirty hours on judges?" said Sen. Edward Kennedy, D-Mass., at the Democrats' late-night rally. "There are 13 million hungry children in America tonight but Republicans don't have time to debate that."

"These people deserve an up or down vote on the Senate floor," Bush told reporters. "And yet a few senators are playing politics and it's wrong and it's shameful. ... I will stand with them to the bitter end."

Why isn't Bush in Iraq standing with the troops until the bitter end?

They have a purpose in his eyes(what he is told to see) and they are doing that right now.

You are right we haven't heard him say that about the military yet have we?

23. True. It's just the spoiled brat, juvenile tantrums that he throws...
that drive me crazy.

I simply cannot believe that people actually like this idiot and half the country still approves of the job he's doing.

17. Demands!!!! That sounds like a dictator talking
We not allowed to have dissent in this country now. Senators are told they are unAmerican for protesting the radical judges. If you are an anti-war protestor you get thrown in jail for "disturbing" the peace....sort of an oxymoron!

21. "Bush Demands": the leitmotif of the administration
This type of tantrum, more than anything else, will be what brings him down.

22. I can't believe they do this stuff with a straight face
Republicans held out for eight years using every trick in the legislative playbook to avoid confirming damn near anyone. Democrats took a relative high road and confirmed twice as many appointments as they did and now they raise holy hell because they can't get every last lunatic, federalist, wackjob on the bench.

If hypocrisy was currency, we would have solved the budget deficit.

24. He "demands"?
Well, all I have to say is "Fuck him", but I'm not sure I'm allowed to say that anymore. Is anyone watching him speaking now, talking about prescription drug benefits to an audience of seniors that the talking head chick on MSNBC just said each paid $2000-a-plate to hear him? I think he's talking to the wrong audience.
