Report: Chafee Does Not Rule Out Presidential Censure Vote
Senator Welcomes Debate On Domestic Wiretapping

WASHINGTON -- Republican U.S. Sen. Lincoln Chafee said he would not rule out eventually joining a vote to censure President Bush over domestic spying, though he said such a penalty would be "drastic."

Chafee said he did not currently support the proposal by Sen. Russell Feingold, D-Wis., to formally censure Bush for authorizing the wiretapping program.
"Everything should occur in steps," Chafee told The Providence Journal.

But he agreed that the wiretapping program, part of a broader war on terrorism, was illegal and said he welcomed the public debate prompted by Feingold's censure resolution.

"You just don't hear it -- any outrage, or questioning of it, or even support," Chafee said.

3. I am glad he said it
but he is not real Repuke. Like Liberman is not a real Democrat.

Let's see if we can get some real Repukes to join us (preperaing for re-election?)

5. Hey, Rhode Island! Can we trade for him? We'll give you Lieberman and LOTS
of cash, plus players to be named later. Hell, you can even bulge out your western border a few miles and take one of the casinos.

9. Whatever. Same old stuff from Chafee.
He always takes the "wait-and-see" route, then goes ahead and toes the GOP party line anyway.

10. In RI, Bush is at 28% the last time I saw a poll from there ~
So it's in Chafee's best interest to say this, imo ~ however, to give him credit, he did not vote for Bush ~ and it might give other Republicans the courage to come forward when they see Bush's poll numbers dropping every day.

How can they condone a president breaking the law?
