White House Concedes Bush Shrank Size Of Sunni Triangle
(sorry – no link)

WASHINGTON (Dow Jones)--The White House conceded Thursday that President
George W. Bush greatly underestimated the size of the area of Iraq in which
insurgents are attacking coalition forces.
In a speech Tuesday, Bush said the only area of Iraq that is in turmoil was
what he termed the "Baathist triangle" and added this area was only "200 square
miles."
Sunnis strongly supported Saddam Hussein's regime and, therefore, were the
backbone of the former regime's bureaucracy and security forces.
However, White House Spokesman Scott McClellan admitted Thursday the
200-square-mile figure grossly underestimated the size of the home ground of the
insurgency.
"I believe the area is larger," McClellan said.
McClellan said the 200-square-mile figure had been "cleared during the speech
process."
McClellan didn't give a square-mile area of the Sunni Triangle but it is in
the thousands of square miles. This underlines the difficulties the U.S. is
having in tracking down the insurgents.

This critter is so out of touch as to what is going on…..He probably needs to be lead by hand just take a friggin’ piss.

13. Hmmm....
Well I suggest you check out their message board....under the "ETC." section, there are conversations (flamewars, really) between a guy named Peterh and a bunch of gung-ho warmongers, and peterh comes out looking like a million bucks. This all happened during the run up to the Iraq war. Very interesting stuff, and if you're at all interested in the story of the Zodiac Killer, lots of great info on that as well....

Although, I'd have to guess they are pretty much in denial, and suffering severe cases of cognitive dissonance.

They've used it in their "media only reports the bad news" spin. "The violence is only in the Sunni Triangle. The rest of the country is peaceful."

Yep...heard it all before.

24. One little thing they're forgetting about the size of the Sunni Triangle
They keep stressing that it's "just this one little region". What they don't say is that 75-80% of the population of Iraq lives in it.

Tell me, george, is this triangle an isoscoles triangle? A right triangle? An equilateral triangle? Or maybe, like so many other aspects of this administration, it's an obtuse triangle.

9. These idiots stole the WH confusing land area for population
No surprise that they would keep right on with the bullshit. Square miles? Who fucking cares how many square miles there are? How many fucking people live in those square miles, you dumbshit spin-meisters?

Under their logic, a full-scale revolt in New York, Chicago and Los Angelese would be less severe than one covering the state of Wyoming. Insane, stupid, or dishonest, and possibly all three.

The funniest part is that even this bullshit eludes them - they even have to revise the number, when the criteria itself should be revised. Incredible ineptitude.

18. Probably meant 200 miles square.
That is, 200 miles on a side. That's, um, about the size of Pennsylvania, if it is rectangular. 40,000 square miles. 200 square miles would be about 14 miles on a side. About the size of Delaware county, Pa.

But, of course, sposed to be triangular. So, even if that is the glitch, does he mean 40,000 square miles, or 20000 (triangle with base and height of 200 miles) or does he not know squat?

Right, I'm wasting my time.

Edited on Thu Nov-13-03 04:43 PM by Aidoneus
what he intended to say is also a lie.

The attacks on occupation forces are not limited to this so-called "Sunni triangle" region, as there are similar (but not as concentrated) operations frequently carried out in Mosul, Kirkuk, the Tigris valley between Mosul & Samarra, all of Baghdad (including the Shiite & Kurdish sections of the city), the upper Euphrates region between Ramadi & Qusaybah, as well as against the lackeys and mercenaries occupying in Karbala and the South of Iraq, etc..

That it is particularly concentrated to Fallujah (a "town" well over twice the size of the capital city I live in) & the middle Tigris regions are tied to individual circumstances and insults that came about after the invasion and occupation began, and not some ideologically-limited conspiracy against the "benevolent" colonial occupyers.

Leave the fucking dunces to try to lie about anything, but it's quite an artform to even do that improperly. How is it that these people rule the world?

30. What percentage of the country's population lives in this area?
I love the way they like to marginalize the issue by pointing out how small the physical area is, when the issue is the the percentage of the population. It's sort of like the Red States map from the '00 election: Republicans are preferred by dirt, but people tend to have problems with them...

33. counting Baghdad, 30-35%
Edited on Thu Nov-13-03 05:04 PM by Aidoneus
the population of Baghdad itself (the 2nd most concentrated area of armed resistance to the occupation, behind the special case of Fallujah) is around 1/5-1/4 of the whole country (5-6mil out of 24-25mil). The surrounding area that makes up the so-called "Sunni triangle" (a propaganda term invented by the occupation authorities and their media lackeys) being another 10-15% on top of that.

That's all irrelevant, though, as attacks on US occupation forces and their mercenaries exist throughout most major cities in the country.

You only need a little triangle to hold the handful of bad-apple dead-enders, and a few outside agitators, right?

Pretty soon it'll be small enough to just sweep under the rug, just in time for the election.
