Democrats say Bush violated Constitution
Associated Press

WASHINGTON - House Democrats want President Bush to say whether he knew of what they call a "fundamental constitutional problem" with the $39 billion deficit reduction package he signed last month.

A letter to Bush, signed by House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi and Rep. Henry Waxman of California and released Thursday, is the latest challenge to a bill that was passed in slightly different forms by the House and Senate before it was sent to Bush.

"A bill is not law unless the same version is passed by both the House and the Senate and signed by the president," top Democrats wrote to Bush. He signed it on Feb. 8.

The Senate version of the bill said Medicare can pay to rent some types of medical equipment for 13 months, as intended by congressional negotiators. A clerk erroneously wrote down 36 months before the bill was sent back to the House for a final vote, and that's what the House approved Feb. 1.

9. and you're right
This is a really interesting and curious story to me. It never seems to pick up any steam but, on the other hand, it doesn't go away. It seems to be a reflection of the newly discovered, hardly there but beginning to develop, backbone in the press. 3 years ago, there's no doubt in my mind that this story would have been dead and buried -- and stayed that way -- weeks ago.

6. KR-a clerk "erroneously" wrote down 36 mos. instead of 13 mos? The numbers
Edited on Thu Mar-23-06 09:34 PM by wordpix2
don't look anything the same---does a 1 look like a 3? Does a 3 look like a 6? And don't these bills have numbers written out like "thirteen?"

This is very odd.

8. This law can be challenged in court
As to Bush having a problem with the Constitution, he doesn't have any! Bush is above the law!

Impeach him, or perish!
